Pale straw. Initially quite taut and lean, but over 30mins or so this opens up and broadens. Reasonably rich with dosage quite apparent. Good line and finish. Promising. Probably needs a little while for the dosage to integrate fully. ****
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Double decanted three hours. Full old gold. Clean nose, no ox. Quite minerally and clean lines here. As with previous bottle, the mineral end of Chassagne. This one has a slightly chemically twang though, something green and herbal with a bit of lift. Gives it a bit of an edge. Not entirely convinced by this bottle. ***1/2
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Double decanted 3 hours. Full old gold. A touch of warm butter on the nose with a fairly classic Meursault profile. Some hazelnut and cream. Similar slightly herbal mineral cut to this as previous bottles, giving some structural line and focus. Proper old school Meursault. ****
Double decanted 3 hours. Deep ruby. Lovely nose, classic St J, cedar and cigar box with ripe blackcurrant fruit. More depth here, and density, than a bottle at the 99 horizontal in May. A generosity here. Lovely balance. A very solid **** indeed. Plenty of legs left in this.
Double decanted theee hours. Dark ruby. Again, quite a classic claret nose, just a little looser, with a plummy element to the nose cf the LP. Densely silky. Reasonably rich on the palate. Lots of interest here. ****
Double decanted 3 hours. Dark, deep ruby. Dark, dense and ripe-fruited. Lush and dark. Palate similar. Rich and ripe with plenty of glycerin and a touch of heat coming through on the finish. Just a shade riper and denser than the Bordeaux pair, but showing a little more Californian than the La Muse alongside. Almost a touch of sur-maturité. ****
Double decanted 3 hours. Similarly dark and glossy as the Joie alongside. Again, an extra degree of gloss and density cf the clarets. Served blind this and the Joie are taken as Cali, or right bank bordeaux. Nicely rich with blackcurrant and plum, a touch of graphite and lots of tightly silkily dense fruit. Long and rich and without the slight alcoholic heat of the Joie (curriously, 14.1 v 13.7 Abv). Lovely as ever. ****
