    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

    pale ruby, thick tears • subtle nose, cherry, red berries, floral notes, caramel • very pure red fruit, minerality, medium body, plenty of silky tannin, 13% ABV, long finish • ages in about 30% new oak, 60-70 year-old vines, grown in clay-rich soil just south of Dijon at the very northern end of the Gevery-Chambertin Grand Cru hill• should evolve nicely but pleasant drinking now

    medium ruby • very shy nose, slightly herbaceous, moderate amount of new oak • high acidity, very tannic, 13.5% ABV • overall a bit angular and disjointed at this point, would cellar for several years before approaching again

    medium ruby, amber rim • aromatic, cherry cordial, sweet berries, very floral, cinnamon, cloves • very complex, fine grained tannins, 13.5% ABV • single vineyard bottling, aged 24 months in 50% new French oak • reminiscent of good Burgundy, ready to drink now but will age

  • 2015 Lingua Franca Pinot Noir Mimi's Mind 91 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    medium dark ruby • red berry liqueur, potpourri, sous bois, a bit stemmy • very pure, very tannic, excellent persistence • made from 70% whole clusters, foot-stomped, barrique-aged, named after grower Mimi Casteel, the most tannic in the Linqua Franca range and in this flight • will reward long-term aging

    pale ruby • unfortunately this bottled was corked • the structure suggests more of an Old World style, only 12.5% ABV • product of sommelier Raj Parr and winemaker Sashi Moorman

    medium translucent ruby • a bit green, 2017 vintage was cool, reductive even after a couple of hours in the glass, bottled under screwcap • very long finish, 13.5% ABV • longtime winemaker Blair Walter uses 20-30% whole clusters • held its own in this flight but would lay down awhile and then give a long decant
