Glossy, clean, peach, fresh but soft, creamy lemon, flowers. A delightful aperitif.

  • 2016 Domaine Jomain Bourgogne Blanc 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

In Puligny, Domaine Jomain is located directly next to hotel Le Montrachet. I walked past it many times last week, wondering why I had never tasted any of its wines. The basic model is quite alright: a solid, no-frills white Burgundy, with good freshness and fruit.

  • 2014 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet Les Mazures 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

Fresh but ripe, harmonious acidity, classical style, barely visible oak provides warmth, flowers and orchard fruit, nice ampleur, intense creamy lemon, seductive texture, atractive salty note, good flavours and length, with just a hint of back-end heat. On its plateau of maturity, drink now - 2022.

  • 2013 Weingut Gottardi Südtiroler Blauburgunder 90 Points

Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol

Tight and fresh style, almond bitters, needs time in the glass to open up, lovely nuance and precision, ripe orange, blueberries, hint of forest floor, cool minerality, not generous but energetic, good length.

  • 2015 Pieropan Valpolicella Superiore Ruberpan 87 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore

A blend of 60% Corvina and 35% other varieties, including Rondinella and Corvinone. Aged for 30 months in 500 / 2500 liter oak barrels. Not enthusiastic about this. It feels dry and tough and lacks fruit and charm. It’s a if the extended oak ageing sucked the life out of this wine. I sympathise with Boirebio’s note below.
