Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2018 Can Sumoi Penedès La Rosa 87 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Penedès

very...innocuous wine with good sweet fruit and sweet vanilla infusion, fresh but soft on the palate, short finish but the ball stays on the fairway the whole time. Really perfect as a thirst quencher and aperitif on a hot summer's evening, well chilled. however, in the company of the Domaine Tempier Bandol rosé and the Frank Cornelissen Susucaru, this was too much like a super market wine cooler to even stand a chance. Don't save this.

  • 2017 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé 89 Points

    France, Provence, Bandol

One of the better showings of this wine - herbal but with some fruit notes as well, and not bitter. Very good with some simple snacks (olives, chips) that took the edge off it somewhat. Serious wine for sure.

  • 2018 Frank Cornelissen Susucaru Rosato 89 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane

very good stuff, felt even better than the last bottle we tried a month ago. Fresh, mouthwatering tangy acidity and some swagger that was even more apparent when tried side by side with the two other more mainstream (but good) rosés.

Flight 2 (4 Notes)

  • 2017 Rall Cinsault 92 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region

red fruited and spicy - tight and with curled up elegance waiting to be unleashed. Best is to save for a couple of years, I assume, and otherwise decant well in advance of dinner. Lovely and pure.

  • 2015 Savage Wines Red Blend 95 Points

    South Africa, Western Cape

no notes taken, this was pure enjoyment with lots and lots of complexity and great balance and some power to stand up to an asado. this came out on top of the other three South African reds tried at the same dinner. Needed a lot of air to unfurl itself.

Very interesting, complex aroma, sniffer wine with elegant body. Loved it.

  • 2015 Kanonkop Paul Sauer 94 Points

South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch, Simonsberg-Stellenbosch

agree with Rossi.wine's note. This is really good stuff. But obviously in the smooth, oaky and fruity genre. Great with our asado from the get go, but stayed the course and I think this has the stuffings to keep (although why would you when it's this darn good right now?).
