Introduction
Although I haven't flighted these out, the wines were delivered in pairs to make for some very interesting comparisons.
1990 Champagne Le Mesnil Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Millésimé
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Magnum. Deep yellow. Rich but fully mature (or beyond) with caramel and a touch of sherry. Not very lively.

1985 Champagne Le Mesnil Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Millésimé
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Magnum. Slightly lighter color than the 1990. This too starts a bit mushroomy. Delicate, elegant weight. Fresher, better acidity, and much more fruit than the younger wine. Excellent Champagne now and for the next 5 years or so.

2000 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Deep yellow. Truffled aromatics with some bitter citrus. Medium weight. Typical oyster and saline elements with outstanding acidity. As older Dauvissat wines often do, this freshened over time, but for me, it never caught up with the Raveneau example from the same vintage.

2000 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Les Forêts
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Medium yellow. Fresher aromas than the Dauvissat Forest. Floral, herbal tones. Bigger than that wine although relatively lean for Raveneau and not that waxy texture they can have. Tons of salinity and soil with excellent fruit to support it. In great shape, not a bit too loose or ripe.

2009 Marcel Lapierre Morgon Cuvée Marcel Lapierre
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Ruby with slight fading. Super ripe cherry nose. Sappy, late earth. No lack of stuffing here. More obviously alcoholic and overripe than the Foillard 3.14 I had the other night. I much preferred that wine.

1999 Marcel Lapierre Morgon

Pale color. Strikingly minty for Gamay with some barnyard. Light, soil filled, high acidity, cool green notes, and not much fruit left. Over the hill.

1988 Domaine Sainte-Anne Côtes du Rhône Villages St. Gervais

Light ruby core. Pure licorice and mixed red and black berry. Surprising depth, weight, and length. This is incredibly good for a 30+ year old Côtes-du-Rhône!

1990 Château Pradeaux Bandol

Full ruby. Funk and blue/blackberry. Meaty feel. Good sweet fruit, some herbs, and excellent grip. Very alive and does not come across as tainted.

2008 Lorenzo Accomasso Barolo Riserva

Pale, faded color. Soft, earthy scents, somewhat floral. Lovely light naturally sweet fruit with a citrus peel top note. Gentle and long. Subtle and at its peak.

2003 Cappellano Barolo Piè Rupestris Otin Fiorin (Gabutti)
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Lighter red with a brownish tint. Forward licorice drop. Much bigger than the Accomasso. Ripe but not overly so. Lively, roundly tannic, and young. Impressive if not quintessentially elegant Nebbiolo. It has the guts to go another decade plus.

Magnum. Ruby. Stalky, menthol aromatics. Middle weight. Good black fruit, but peppery. Rustic, rather harsh, dry finish. Not for me.

1999 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie

Ruby. Riper than the Garon, lots of mint. Medium weight, sweet black fruit, long and earthy. Round and complex with significant tannins still to resolve. Terrific wine still on its upward swing.

1956 Bodegas Riojanas Rioja Monte Real Reserva
Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
Light, pale rim. Wondrously sweet, spicy scents with a touch of minty oak. The palate does not quite live up to the nose, as there is less fruit and more soil and a shorter finish that is not totally harmonious. Nevertheless, amazing for 60+ year old wine from this vintage that was disastrous everywhere else in the world.

1964 C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) Rioja Viña Real Reserva Especial
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
Healthy red. Stemmy and green oak. As opposed to the 1956 Riojana which shone on the nose but faded in the mouth, this was exactly opposite. Gorgeous feel, discrete oak, real sweetness of fruit with a chocolate quality that developed supported by superb acidity and minerality. Warm, inviting, spicy and long. Complete wine that still has a good bit in reserve. My favorite wine of the night by far.
