Very rich and berry-centric with lots of Pinot character throughout. I am told this i slow dosage, which rarely thrills me, but this came across as rich and creamy and almost fleshy. Very enjoyable.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Rich orchard fruit, some stone fruit with charming floral and spice. Richer than most 2011s with good length and a nicely finessed, softening finish. Stayed wonderful for the 3-4 hours I was able to keep some in glass.
Tasted double blind alongside the 2001, knowing it was a vertical. I thought it Gevrey 1er Cru. This 1996 had a charming old wine nose, clearly from a ripe vintage, but I thought it much older (1989?). Less exciting palate was clearly getting tired.
Tasted double blind alongside the 2001, knowing it was a vertical. I thought it Gevrey 1er Cru. Complex araay of black and red cherry with earth and roasted meat. Good weight, better concentration, particularly in the middle, then finishing slightly softer. I haven't had this wine since a 2010 dinner with proprietor Benoit Germain, shortly before his death.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
A very complex combination of red cherry and berry aromas and flavors, well supported by Asian five spice. Starts out so fresh, bright and tasty, then picked up weight and length. Drinking so well now with near perfect harmony, this will continue to evolve and be a great wine for at least another decade.

I have not this wine in many years. It took a while to come around tonight, starting out rustic and slightly dirty. Too bad we didn't decant, but this was good within 15-20 minutes and then great after 3-45 minutes. It started out musty and thin, but this cleaned up and picked up so much glorious wine, textures and complexity. Best taste was the last.
This was not not like any Stout I have had before. An intense concentration with sweet and savory malty notes that seems like a mid-aged Muscat or Muscadelle Solera wine, but even more richness without the unctuous textures. Really excellent. Imperial Stout made in neutral Sine Qua Non Syrah barrels.
Late night impulse purchase so that we had something to drink with cheese! Rich for Chablis with loads of rich apple, some lemon peel on finish. Good weight and length for its level, good overall.
