Fruits were big on this, characteristic of the hot 2015 weather. Plum, blackberry, greens. But still, a simple, primary one, with oak notes balancing pretty well. Perhaps a few years to do better, but not too much?

Some good blackberries, tar and greens, yet the high level of tannins proved distracting. Finish was rather short. Might do well with some years in the bottle, but doubtful that the improvement will be that much

Nose of some barnyardy funk. However, the fruit flavours on the palate are comparatively mild, and more of pepper spices and grippy tannins. Not the kind of balance I’m looking for

Captivating aromas of dried flowers, red cherry, brambles and compost. Soft on the palate, with some roasted berries, smokes, and earthy. Finish was fair, but generally pretty enjoyable

Felt pretty ripe with some citrus and peach, wet stones, and that unmistakeable varnish flavour at the back. A fairly strong one and has some good fresh acids

Again a hint of tar and rubber smokes on the nose, while the flavour was a good complex combination of pineapples, nectarine, grass. Seems like this slight funk is a product of the minimal intervention. Enjoyed!

Intense blackberry, cassis, raspberry flavours, a big punch but still well balanced by the acids, such that it’s not too heavy. Also, that distinct orange blossom, orange peel undertone that I consistently get from wines with minimal intervention

Finally I get to taste this. A complex one, lilac and lavender flowers, cassis, raspberry, orange peel, roasted walnuts, some mocha and toast, and a little hint of BBQ meat at the back, towards the fairly long finish. Indeed like what Julian said, this is the Ministry’s answer to CDP. Nice!

Sour cherry aromas. Tannic, of some blackberry, grass and hay. Some caramel and rosy notes come about later

Rosy, cocoa aromas, bit of cassis. On the palate it has black plums and some inky black graphite. Fairly intense, but the tannins give it a fairly hard bite

A strong vanilla and cedar wood scent, and raisinny. Strong crunchy tannins, high alcohol, big raisin fruits, plummy, prunes, cassis, cocoa, mocha, and interestingly some mint leaves, and roasted hazelnuts and caramel. A long finish. Super concentrated and extracted, but I guess that’s why I still love it

Aromas of roasted hazelnuts, caramel, and milk chocolate. Crunchy tannins, big pepper spices, grass, wet leaves, cassis, ripe plums, prunes, caramel, chocolate. Another exceptional make from Woodstock!

2015 Château de Grangeneuve Blanc 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Entre-Deux-Mers, Sainte Foy Bordeaux
This one surprised me! Was expecting the big stone-fruited herbaceous notes of white Bordeaux, but this was nothing like it! A light rendition with fresh lemons and nectarine, bit of salad leaves, and a poke of white flinty smoke, which the winemaker mentioned that flint soils were a trademark of Sainte-Foy. Interesting!

As a comparison to their white, this red is a simple, classic Bordeaux with the bits of black cherry, and raspberry, as well as some grassy feel. There was also a very small hint of the flint smokes which was much more pronounced with the white

2014 Château Hostens-Picant 91 Points

A good black fruit punch, cassis and blackberry. Grass, some tar, flint smokes, and charcuterie. Intense in flavour, but velvety and soft. Indeed well-made. A fine example from Sainte-Foy
