Impromptu Dinner w/Friends

Introduction
Lady VM organized a last minute gathering at a local BYOB, Pa Lian Burmese. Our first time visiting this west suburban BYOB and it will not be our last. The food was very good, very reasonably priced, and the staff very accommodating and personable. This is definitely a spot to patronize. Following dinner, we went back to Chateau VM for a couple more bottles and to meet the new puppy. Thanks to the VMs for organizing & hosting, and to everyone else for the great wines.
Flight 1 - Dinner wines (12 Notes)
We simply ordered a few items off the menu and passed everything around, family style. Many reviewers rave about the tea salad, which was good, but the owner talked us into trying the ginger salad as well, and I am glad he did-it was one of the highlights of the evening and will be a must-order dish on our subsequent visits.
Flight 2 (2 Notes)
Enjoyed back at Vino Me's home, playing with the new puppy, Roux.
NV Gallimard Père et Fils Champagne Cuvée de Réserve Blanc de Noirs 89 Points

Ripe apple, cherry and berry notes follow through on the palate. Medium bead. 89-90 pts.

Courtesy of D&L. Spice, white fruit and floral notes; pretty. Good acidity, fresh and balanced, with fruit and mineral notes carrying through the finish.

2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 92 Points

Opens with aromas of nuts and lemon with a pronounced mineral overtone. The palate follows the bouquet with more citrus and mineral than nuts but all elemnts are there. Balanced; lingering finish. 92-93 pts.

Cherry, cranberry and rhubarb notes with hints of orange peel and spice. Cherry and clove on the palate. Drinking nicely now- I see no reason to hold this much longer.

2013 No Girls Syrah 93 Points

Courtesy of B&D. Deep color, opening with dark fruit, roasted meats and smoky molasses notes. Full-bodied. Flavors of macerated red and black berries, more of the molasses- almost a barbecue sauce-like quality- with a bit of spice coming in on the finish. I am admittedly not always a fan of Baron's wines or those he's got a hand in, but this was very impressive tonight.

Courtesy of D&L. Mineral, red berries, mesquite, bay leaf and black fruit aromas. Wonderfully complex and nuanced. Medium- to full-bodied, with a bit of tannic grip and flavors of roasted herbs, red berries and pepper. Has a subtle woody element, not mesquite as in the bouquet, but I can't quite place it though it is very enjoyable. Excellent, and sure to improve with a bit more time in the cellar. 93+ pts.

Half bottle, courtesy of VM. Deep color. Tropical fruit dominates the bouquet along with a subtle floral element reminiscent of dandelions. Rich texture, with tropical fruit flavors carrying the finish. Nicely balanced with good acidity for the fruit.

2013 Wyncroft Riesling Icewine Wren Song Vineyard 94 Points

Half bottle. Lavender, tea, honey, orange blossom and ripe stone fruit notes. Rich texture. Stone fruit dominates, though there are tropical elements as well, along with a nice spice undertone. The acidity is softening just a bit, not enough to make this cloying or heavy by any stretch, it's just not quite as lively/bright as it once was.
