Flight 1 - Something to Start (1 Note)

Flight 2 - 2010 (2 Notes)

I had intended to serve 2010 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère alongside 2010 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Perrières, because Mouchère is situated within Perrières. But alas, I pulled the wrong Boillot 2010 Perrières (Meursault) from storage, and did not realize my mistake until too late.

Flight 3 - Too Young, but so Tasty (2 Notes)

Flight 4 - Well Aged (2 Notes)

Flight 5 - Bonus Wines, Served Blind (5 Notes)

  • 2014 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Served blind to the group, everybody thought Vosne 1erCru, which I completely understand given the wine’s density and seamlessness. All red fruit with Asian five spice and impressive depth. This keeps getting better with age, and probably has further upside.

  • 2016 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Bourgogne 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Also served blind to the group, this came across as fresh and brightly fruity with medium/ good weight, finishing with slightly sweet spice. Very good for its level now, probably also better in another year or two.

  • 2005 Domaine Robert Groffier Bourgogne 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Served blind to the group. Very good density for its level, and also very good freshness for a 15 yo Bourgogne. So tasty right now with very Gevrey character to me.

  • 2006 M. Chapoutier Ermitage l'Ermite 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Served to us double blind. A very perplexing wine. At first I thought this from Burgundy, then switched to New World, cool climate Pinot Noir. Others thought this southern Rhône. We all definitely enjoyed the wine, with its rich black and red cherry character, subtle spice with roasted meat, and long, near elegant finish, but found it slightly non-descript.

  • 2009 Les Climats du Coeur Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Magnum, popped-decanted-and poured, then enjoyed over a couple of days. Served blind to the group. This came across as very Gevrey to me (mostly black cherry, some red cherry with roasted meat), but the group thought it more like Morey or Chambolle based on lighter, more elegant textures. My perspective was that is likely younger vine character coming through, plus its inherent youthfulness. This was always charming and well balanced, but more weight did emerge on Days 2 and 3.
