  • 2018 Silent Way Pinot Noir Macedon Ranges 89 Points

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Macedon Ranges

    (12/11/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting, 13% alcohol, D5V12 and MV6, 10% whole bunches, 5% new oak. Cherry cola and chocolate with some slightly ferrous character as well. The palate is a good mix of black fruits and some more mineral, saline and spicy notes. Mid length, this is a nice Pinot at good value.

  • 2019 Vinteloper Wines Pinot Noir 91 Points

Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills

    (12/11/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting. Two vineyards. Kuitpo and Lenswood, Adelaide Hills. 12.8% alcohol, 11 months in French oak, 25% new.

Heady red floral aromatics with red berries, light cocoa dusting and some interesting herbal/stalky notes going on. Palate has a sweet tinged start, but also a nicely textured, spicy and savoury line through it that pulls things back and leaves it feeling fresh. Really quite liked drinking this glass of wine.

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    (11/27/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting, 13% alcohol. Chocolate, dark cherry and a little spice. Good acid lift on the palate, has a twist of fruit sweetness but in general feels nicely light. Nicely balanced drinking.

  • 2019 Good Intentions Pinot Noir Ooh la la noir 86 Points

Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Mt. Gambier

    (11/28/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting, 11.3% alcohol, carbonic maceration. Cloudy colour - tobacco ash, stalks, sour plum and beetroot - it is pretty lifted given the aroma profile. Palate has sour funk, with plenty of that ashy earthen flavour coming through. Has some interest, but it's not easy to drink even with a bit of a chill to it. There will be a crowd that loves this, but not me this time around.

  • 2019 Garagiste Pinot Noir Le Stagiaire 88 Points

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula

    (12/11/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting - 10% whole bunch and 13.5% alcohol, unfined and unfiltered. Raspberry, redcurrant and roses on the nose.

The palate has similar red fruit lift and verve, feels pretty restrained with minimal sweetness, though the acidity on the palate was a tad prickly across the course of a couple of hours. Still held mid length and was pretty good overall!

  • 2020 BK Wines Pinot Noir Carbonic 86 Points

Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lenswood

    (12/11/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting, 12% alcohol, 100% whole bunch and full carbonic maceration.

Cloudy coloured. Smoky, with plums and celery/herbal notes on the nose. Palate is tart with sour cherry flavour that dips into bitterness through the mid palate. The palate isn't really meshing for me, it's not providing much enjoyment or brightness despite feelings like it has underlying complexity.

  • 2019 Charteris Pinot Noir Central Otago 90 Points

New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago

    (12/11/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting, 13% alcohol, 100% UCD5 Clone 32% Whole Bunch, 20% New French oak.

Blood, plum and cherries, with earthy spice notes on the nose - much more classic in profile versus many of the other Pinotpalooza samples tried. Palate is medium bodied, striking a nice balance between sweet and savoury fruit with a good mineral acid line. Really like the proportions of this.

  • 2018 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Crimson 89 Points

New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough

    (12/11/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting, 13.5% alcohol.

Black cherry and strawberry notes on the nose, in the background it shows a little herbal twist. Sweet fruit right upfront on the palate, tightens up on the mid palate with more of a herbal, sappy flavour but retainaint the sweet fruit edges. At first I wasn't sure about this, but it started to grow on me with some time.

  • 2018 Akitu Pinot Noir A2 90 Points

New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago

    (12/11/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting, 14% alcohol. Nicely vibrant and pretty on the nose - spice, cherry, violets and redcurrant. Palate is definitely sweet but also sappy with a savoury herbal twist through the middle. This is pretty enjoyable - though depending on your taste, it's very Central Otago in shape, for better or worse.

  • 2019 Dirty Three Pinot Noir All the Dirts 89 Points

    Australia, Victoria, Gippsland

    (12/11/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting, 13.5% alcohol, blend of 5 vineyards in Gippsland. Kirsch, graphite, plum and a sprinkle of cocoa over the top. Palate has some grip about it and there is ripeness and warmth to the fruit. Has good early appeal, was happy with the glass of this.

  • 2019 Ghost Rock Vineyard Pinot Noir Supernatural 90 Points

    Australia, Tasmania

    (12/12/2020)

From custom can for Pinotpalooza tasting. No fining, no filtration, low SO2. 13.5% alcohol.

Red cherries, herbs, raspberry. Palate shows off plenty of herbs, smoky meat and earth but rounded out by quite sweet red fruits. Has some good interest, I wonder if the animal notes might take over with time but it's really good for the price now.
