Blind. Aromas are rich, herbal and hint at a sweetness to come on the palate. The palate is however dry with only modest concentration of fruit and lots of taut acidity. Pretty clearly riesling but not fully harmonious.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Blind. Very earthy and leathery aromas. The palate is earth-driven with good enough concentration but fairly simple with mature fruit and funk elements. A bit corse on the finish. Pretty shocked on reveal as I would have expected a much better showing. A bottle from the same source 4+ years ago was much better. Mid-80s showing.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Blind. Sunny, ripe fruits and florals on the nose takes me to new world Pinot Noir. The palate has nice, sweet red cherry with modest concentration and some slightly bitter acidity. I was guessing NW or Burgundy from a lean vintage. Disappointing showing.
Bright nose of red cherry, florals and whole cluster spice. Elegant and light-to-medium weight profile with good silky fruit and acidity. In a nice place now. Served blind to a few friends all thought it was Burgundy.
Punches nicely above its village level weight class with a full nose of smoky black cherry with toasted herbs. Good juicy fruit with plenty of spice-driven complexity. Nicely ripe and rich for a 2013.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Not as 'on' as a bottle in early 2020. This seems more brooding and serious - needing time to show its stuff. Excellent concentration and balance to age. Better in 3-5 years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Blind. Terrific boastful complex nose of earthen-black cherry, forrest floor, dried spice and mushrooms. Delicious with evolved and complex fruit that is still full of life. Meaty and rich. An over-performer.
Blind. The nose is full with bright, sweet red cherry, florals and toasted herbs. Round and sweet with crunchy acidity. Upside from here as this develops nuance.
Blind. Nose is chocolaty and rich with an attractive and distinct herbal character. Only modestly sweet with very ripe, rich, concentrated fruit that is fresh and balanced. Loads of herbal complexity. Fairly dry despite the richness.
