Focus on a vertical and horizontal tasting - including good food - of a number of Francois Raveneau's wines
This tasting once again proved that Raveneau is the king of Chablis. Interesting that my winner of the evening was Montee de Tonnere 2010 (score 96), which is a lot cheaper than top Cuvee Les Clos.
This evening's no 2 was actually Les Clos 2003 (score 95++) just a few centimeters behind Montee de Tonnere 2010 and on the other hand only a few centimeters ahead of Butteaux 2007 (score 95) which is among the cheapest in Raveneau's portfolio.
NV Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Cuvée No. 737 90 Points
France, Champagne
Late disgorged: Aromas of overripe apple

2007 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Very rich and high intensity, apricot, grapefruit, toffee, clearly developed in a very good way. Perfect balance. Simply an outstanding wine performing so much better than vintage 2011, which I scored 91

2011 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Medium intensity, a little bitterness which I am not craxy about. An excellent wine but not close to vintage 2007, which I tasted it against and which was clearly performing better (se my notes - score 95).

2010 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 96 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
The hit of the night. That is Raveneau at his best! Even a little better than Les Clos 2003 which I scored 95++. High acidity, a little less rich than the Butteaux bottles from 2007 and 2011. Aromas of apricot and grapefruit but also tertiary aromas of mushroom. Also tasted against 2009 which I scored 91 and 2011 which I scored 90.

Too much bitterness for me and stalky. Still an excellent wine

Beginning premox or just too old. Heavy caramel. However not completely dead.
