Small glass, brief note. Both very rich and very ripe with impressive concentration that thrills me, but too much nearly sweet stone fruit for now. I expect it will get more harmonious in another year or three, and I expect I will like it a lot more then.,
Small glass, brief note. An older bottle that I think was disgorged in 2005. Complex and layered aromas and flavors with earth, baked apple, toasted brioche in intriguing combination. Still fresh enough, and while I prefer Champagne slightly brighter, this was very charming.
Small glass, brief note. Forward and well balanced combination of orchard fruit aromas and flavors with good weight, just less outstanding than Dom Pérignon in its best vintages.
Second time having this from magnum in the past few months, and these were clearly the two best performances I've ever experienced for the wine. Bright pear and apple aromas and flavors with high energy throughout, ending with a long, mineral-flecked finish.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
From magnum. Lots of floral, savory spice and mint aromas along with fresh and poached pear. Even more complex and nuanced orchard fruit flavors, with a rich start, then a more layered, textured and brilliantly long finish. I've enjoyed this wine many times over the years, but tonight's was the best ever, and I'm sure the format (and massive cork) certainly helped. Excellent.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Small glass, brief note. Very reduced when tasted. so unable to appreciate the wine, despite lots of dense materials clearly being evident. This had been open for a while, so a decant would really have helped.
Small glass, brief note. Previously unfamiliar with this wine/producer. I was not surprised with the richness, but pleasantly surprised by the good balance. Very enjoyable.
Combines New World and Old World features effortlessly with ripe black and red cherry, but with bright acidity and a sensible structural balance. Hints of cassis, baking spice, anise and a sense of whole cluster. Very good depth, length and overall balance. Very good now, with further upside. Made from a single large barrel from a single vineyard, ostensibly modeled on Bertheau Bonnes Mares.
Small glass, brief note. Another great bottle with lots of apple, toasted rye bread, anise, and even more savory spice. Very good length and weight, ending in a long, lingering finish.
Small glass, brief note. Ripe black fruit with roasted beef, leather, allspice and anise. Very good depth and balance. Wonderful now, with no fear of fading.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. Lots of orchard fruit with some faint tropical hints, this has impressive density, and could fool many people into thinking it is Grand Cru. Fleshy start, minerally finish with good+ length. Very good now.
Small glass, brief note. Like so many mid-aged Barolos, this still needs so much more time. Rich start, firmly tannic middle-to-finish, but good+ potential.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Small glass, brief note. Very impressive combination of ripe black fruit, both sweet and savory spice, leather and earth with finely harmonized structure. Clearly ripe, but easily and well balanced. Very god now.
Small glass tasted double blind, brief note. Bright New World aromas and flavors with lots of ripe black fruit, slightly sweet spice and good depth. Overall good balance. I would never have expected a L'Aventure to be drinking this well at this age. Definitely still a good wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Late night, small glass, brief note. Floral and spiced aromatic start with black cherry and berry. Similar flavors, still slightly backward butt his was popped-and-poured. Very good depth. I haven't had this wine since tasted from barrel in 2012. I am very pleased with its progression.

2014 Kistler Chardonnay Trenton Roadhouse

Small glass from magnum, brief note. Very impressive richness with a cornucopia of stone fruits. Finishes slightly warmer and flatter than I prefer.

Floral and nutty with lots of ripe orchard fruit, just in front of a few riper tropical hints. Good depth for its level. Good to enjoy young.

Small glass, brief note. An off bottle that just seemed too lean and not giving. Somehow flawed, but it was too late to figure out how.
