A tasting of 41 young Bolgheris (and one Maremma interloper). Quite young wines given the profile; speaking to the makers they were in many cases suggesting leaving them for 5+ years. Frequent comments on the prominence of tannins reflect this; it was often hard to look past, to see how the wines would resolve with time.

Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri
70% cab sav, 30% cab franc, 12m in barrique and 12m in bottle. Immediate blue fruit. Smooth. Tannic finish. Immediate sense that it would go well with steak.

Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore
75% cab sav, 20% cab franc, 5% merlot, 21min tonneaux. Deep enticing nose, bright sweet fruit. G found it big on the nose, then sweetness, then chalky with v dry finish. "Jazzy." "Frills and knickers and cancans" - she found it too complicated, would have been better with food. I liked this a lot.
