Introduction

A ABS organizou uma degustação temática do filme Mondovino.

Flight 1 - Acidity and Gastronomy (2 Notes)

Flight 2 - Structure and longevity (2 Notes)

  • 2002 Mas de Daumas Gassac 90 Points

France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault

This wine is all about it's terroir, made to age up to 50 years it certainly is exquisite, differenet, interesting but doesn't fit quite so well my personal taste.

  • 1997 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

This is tecnology and tradition in harmony. Structure and longevity. The wine is absolutely correct, no edges, nothing, but lacks a deeper personality, a little too made up for my personal taste. It is very balanced, a pleasant drink but the word artificial comes to mind.

Flight 3 - Concentration and softness (2 Notes)

  • 2002 Lapostolle Merlot Cuvée Alexandre Apalta Vineyard 90 Points

    Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley

Another Michel Rolland trademark. Very intense, deep rubi-purple color. This wine is about concentration and smootheness. It's still very young but absolutely ready to drink, very pleasant, but drinking it will not give you anything new. More of the same from Michel's new world.

  • 2000 San Pedro de Yacochuya Yacochuya 93 Points

    Argentina, Valles Calchaquíes, Salta, Cafayate

Very, very deep dark purple color. Michel Rolland has made this one very intriguing. Very high concentration and a strong personality. It's amazing how the high alcohol is in balance with the rest at this point, but in the long run I think this one will suffera little to keep it's balance. It will be fun to see what happens in a few years in the bottle. It's very enjoyable now, very powerful. The tannins could definately use some softening with age but not sure how this aging will be. Could be very surprisingly good but not sure.

Closing

While MR does definately bring international quality up a notch he also contributes to make the same wine everywhere in the world. Personally, I'll stick to terroir and culture.
