France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Rich and ripe orchard fruit with toasted pignoli and nearly sweet spice. Dense and concentrated with a sweet and tart combo that made me think this from 2013, thinking it was a top tier Meursault 1er Cru. Oops.
Red cherry and berry on nose and palate. Good power and density, just still firm from middle forward, so lacking the overall balance I'd prefer, even for a 2005.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
A bit of funk to start, but clearly ripe and barely evolved, like so many 2009s tasted recently. I found it almost brooding with lots here, probably 90 points tonight, while others enjoyed it more.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Double blind, clearly mature Burgundy. Black and red cherry, earth and faint meatiness, I thought this a very good Beaune or Pommard 1er Cru, thinking it 2001 given seemingly moderate degree of ripeness. Very good now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru
Alongside Mounir's 2006 NSG Cailles. Opened and decanted almost two hours before serving. Plenty of bright red fruit throughout with so much depth, power. and density. Layers gradually emerge with more time in glass. So much better vs my previous bottle from two years ago.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Alongside Mounir's brilliant 2006 CSD. Opened almost two hours before serving. Not decanted, probably should have been. Lots of all black fruit here, still wonderfully bright, fresh, and certainly powerful, supported with subtle spice and roasted meat. Good+ balance and weight. Very good now with further upside.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Fully+ mature with an enticing aromatic start, then a great start on its palate. There is a madeira character coming through on finish that makes this seem particularly mature. Also not quite the density I'd expect from a great 1985 Grand Cru. But still, very easy to enjoy.

2009 Arnaud Ente Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Very 2009 in terms of its precocious ripeness and youthfulness. Lots of fun, even if not classically Volnay spiced.

2008 Henri Boillot Chambertin Flawed
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Massive reduction that never went away, even after 45 minutes in a decanter.

1996 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Flawed
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Something off here. So much green pepper and not enough fruit.
