Introduction

I've visited Beaune a few times, but this was the first time I've visited Louis Jadot's cellars. They're pretty impressive, and fun to look around. They also give you eight wines to try (four whites and four reds), which is quite generous. These notes were made from memory the same evening, and hence are shorter than my normal notes.

Flight 1 - The wine tasting (8 Notes)

After looking around the cellars, there was the opportunity to try some wines!

  • 2020 Louis Jadot Rully Blanc

    France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully

Quite fresh and with good acidity, lemon, lemon peel, some under-ripe nectarine. A touch of bitterness. Needs another few years age, then will be a good easy-drinking wine.
Note from a guided tour of Louis Jadot's cellar.

  • 2018 Louis Jadot Pernand-Vergelesses Les Combottes Blanc Domaine Gagey

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses

A bit richer and fuller than the 2020 Rully blanc tried immediately before. Lemon, lemon peel, nectarine, and maybe some oak and spice. Still very young, and maybe a bit closed.
Note from a guided tour of Louis Jadot's cellar.

  • 2018 Louis Jadot Meursault

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Quite rich and full, from a warmer year. Lemon, lemon peel, nectarine, oak, maybe some honey, butter, and hazelnut. Sweet spice. Will be beautiful with a few years age.

  • 2017 Louis Jadot Santenay 1er Cru Clos Faubard Blanc

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru

Much more open than any of the other white wines tasted, probably ready to drink now. Lemon, lemon peel, grapefruit. Nectarine, peach. Spicey oak, honey, wax. Really lovely!

  • 2018 Louis Jadot Morgon Château des Jacques

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon

Noticeably quite deeply coloured. Lots of rich black fruit, black plums, some oak, sweet spice. Very well structured, with firm tannins. Drinking very nicely now, but could easily age for 10+ years to become more savoury.

  • 2018 Louis Jadot Santenay Clos de Malte

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay

Still very young and darkly coloured. Still quite young and closed. Lots of black fruit, including cherry. Red berries. Dense tannins. Will be lovely in a few years.

  • 2015 Louis Jadot Monthélie 1er Cru Les Vignes Rondes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Monthélie 1er Cru

A bit lighter, but drinking nicely. Smooth, well rounded. Nice red fruit character, and good tannins. A bit more complexity than in the village level wines.

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

The best wine of the tasting. From a vineyard close to the border with Vosne-Romanée. Ripe plums, warm earth, cedar, sweet spice. Lovely balance of acid and tannins. Some savouriness. Drinking beautifully at the moment.

Closing

I'd recommend the tour as worthwhile (and good value at €20). I'll definitely re-visit next time I'm in Beaune!
