Piemonte at Madison Park How to Cook a Wolf

A nice dinner out on Seafair Sunday with some fellow wine lovers. Everyone brought amazing bottles. I often find some inconsistency in a flight of Barolo and Barbaresco, but on this night every single wine was just singing. Outstanding across the board and a really diverse range of styles.

• 1990 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut

  France, Champagne

  Deep color, a hint of sherry at first, and not a ton of bubbles. I was a little worried at first. However any fears were quickly allayed. Mmmm, crystalline, wonderful acidity, super yeasty, this really gained so much vibrancy and focus with more air.

  Super smoky, explosively floral, a really insane wine, instantly approachable, drinking so, so well, but oh so young still. Remarkable.

  Mmm, deep, dusky. Oh heck yeah Barolo! Smoky strawberry, really nice structure, great acid, fresh and vibrant.

  Lots of VA. Wowza, this has LOTS of structure! Mmm, air really serves this one well. This is endlessly deep and focused and continually improved throughout the night.

  Wow, cinnamon, spicy, the nose explodes from the glass. This is absolutely singing, red fruited, hyper vibrant, winner winner chicken dinner. Outstanding wine!

  Beastly, intense, dark, brooding, insanely delicious. Easily the biggest and most powerful wine of the evening.
