Flight 1 - Anderson Conn Visit (8 Notes)

  • 2018 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 86 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

The nose is fresh and immediate with juciy tones of peaches, vanilla beans, fresh picked citrus, green apples, stone fruits, some smoke, toast, and white flowers. There is a bit of toastiness to the nose that is a bit distracting while the citrus notes are upfront and lack some depth. The Medium bodied feel is balanced with crisp, medium+ acidity. This is nice and easy drinking, but the toastiness is distracting. That won't integrate with any age, but if one likes the Fume blanc style of Sauvignon Blanc from Napa, this will appeal to them.

  • 2018 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Rosé 87 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

This is easy going and fresh with tones of strawberries, red berries, red flowers, pears, peaches, and red berries. There is a laid back quality that is appealing, though this lacks some depth on the nose. The Medium bodied feel plays to the lighter side while possessing tart, high acidity. This is a great summer wine that is perfect for picnics or the like. It's not a contemplative one and that is just fine as there is an easy-drinking quality to it.

  • 2016 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Right Bank 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

The nose is a bit tight at first, but with some swirling it reveals suave and richer tones of dark red cherries, raspberries, dark red fruits, licorice, some bell pepper notes, vanilla beans, violets, sweet tobacco leaf, dusty notes, and some toast. There is good depth and expression here already with a bit of suaveness. The Full bodied feel is right and balanced with crisp, medium acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. I can see this improving a good bit with 4-5+ years as it needs some time to balance out. There is excellent depth across the nose and palate with a lengthy finish.

  • 2015 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Éloge 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

The nose is more lifted than the right bank with a real elegance and poise that is backed up by tones of red cherries, red currants, black raspberries, herbs, cedary oak, cigar wrapper, leather, and roses. This a sumptuous nose that shows off more of the refined side of Napa. The Full bodied feel is plush and balanced with medium acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The structure is a bit deceptive as you almost don't notice it at first and then really notice it on the second or third sip. This is certainly young, but a few more years of age will likely be a benefit to allow everything to fully harmonize.

  • 2016 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

This is just unabashed Napa and I love it. There is a real richness and plushness to the fruit and nose with tones of chocolate, black cherries, cranberries, black raspberries, currants, smoke, tobacco leaf, leather tones, and some licorice and liqueur notes. There is really good depth and expression that makes you want to take a little extra bit to smell it. The Full bodied feel is plush and balanced with medium acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is youthful, but not punishing. This will really benefit from a few years of aging and has a long runway for many years of joyful drinking.

The nose here is deep and sumptuous as it fills the glass with tones of dark red cherries, raspberries, black and red currants, wood spices, black tea, licorice, liqueur notes, and dark red florals. The Full bodied feel is plump, yet refined and lengthy with medium acidity and chewy, high tannins. This really needs time to fully settle in and allow itself to express itself.

  • 2016 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Franc Gustaf 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

The nose is deep and polished with a more refined sense of self with tones of dark red cherries, black raspberries, black currants, bell peppers, licorice, black tea, leather, and some tobacco notes. This shows off a real expressive side that shows off some savory fruits with a plushness to them. The Full bodied feel is balanced and lengthy with medium acidity and silky, high tannins. While this is fairly accessible right now, this does feel like at least 5+ years will greatly benefit it to let the more elegant nature to fully emerge.

  • 2018 Cade Sauvignon Blanc 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

There is a real juciness and freshness to the nose with white peaches, limes, lemon peels, pears, green apples, grapefruit, grassy notes, and some white flowers. This is hyper classic Sauvignon Blanc with a bit of extra California sunshine. The Medium bodied feel shows on the lighter and playful side with refreshing, high acidity. This is a fun and fresh Sauvignon Blanc. There is a real refreshing quality to it while it shows off a lot of fresh, citrus fruits across the nose and palate.

  • 2016 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

The nose is classic modern Napa, but dialed in with rich tones of black cherries, black raspberries, toasty notes, cassis, red and black currants, and some mocha. There is excellent depth and balance with it showing fairly open right now. The full bodied feel is rich and dense with medium acidity and chewy, high tannins. The feel is where the youth fully comes through. The tannins are a bit overpowering at this time but a few years to smooth it all out will show off what this really has.

  • 2016 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Howell Mountain 94 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

The nose is deep and pure with elegant tones of raspberries, black cherries, dark red fruits, cassis, mint, cedar, chocolate, violets, and spice notes. There is a lot of class and seamlessness to the nose that is a real joy to smell. The Full bodied feel is well balanced and polished with medium acidity and silky, high tannins. This is clearly youthful, but it is also really good. This is pure Howell Mountain and it is a real delight. This will certainly benefit from at least another 3 years and in reality another 5-8+.

  • 2016 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Howell Mountain 95 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

This is a blockbuster nose that is deep, rich, and polished with black cherries, raspberries, currants, blueberry compote, chocolate, mint, fresh herbs, violets, spice notes, and a touch of oak. This is for those that want and enjoy a bigger wine and it doesn't hold back from that. The Full bodied feel is polished and balanced with medium acidity and silky, high tannins. The finish is lengthy and gorgeous just to add the cherry on top. This is a great Cab that is showing itself fairly early, but it will be something even better with another 5+ years on it.

  • 2015 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Howell Mountain 95 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

The nose shows of a darker take with black currants, black cherries, raspberries, anise, sweet tobacco, leather, vanilla beans, smoke, and some cedar. There is a lot of depth and plumpness to it that requires a few goes to take everything in. The Full bodied feel is rich and balanced with medium acidity and silky, high tannins. The tannins are well refined and polished while not being too overbearing. This is a gorgeous Cab that has a lot of complexity and balance. This isn't bashful, but it is very open at this time and feels like it'll have an earlier drinking window.

Flight 3 - Tedeschi Visit (5 Notes)

  • 2018 Tedeschi Family Winery Valdiguié 88 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

This is upfront and forward with tones of plums, red berries, red cherries, pomegranate, violets, and some baking spice notes. This doesn't show off too much depth, though that isn't really the point. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and lively with medium acidity and medium- tannins. The structure and feel is meant for earlier drinking. This is fun as a pounder and friendly wine.

  • 2015 Tedeschi Family Winery Merlot 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

The nose is balanced and red fruited with red cherries, pomegranate, red berries, plums, raspberries, rose petals, and some vanilla notes. There is good complexity, but it does lack some depth. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and plush with medium acidity and medium+ tannins. The structure is silky and more for framing as opposed to overpowering. This is in a good groove already, though a few more years wouldn't hurt.

  • 2017 Tedeschi Family Winery Tempranillo 88 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

The nose is pungent with black cherries, raspberries, violets, herbs, leather notes, licorice, and currants. This shows off more of the black fruited side of tempranillo, but it lacks some intensity and depth. The Full bodied feel is balanced, but the mid-palate is slightly lacking along with medium+ acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is clearly youthful and this could benefit from a few years of aging, though I'm not sure this will improve all that much more with time.
