A in-depth look at red Corton
Light crimson in colour, there is a beautiful perfume alongside oak spices.
The palate has sweet, ripe red fruits, a combination of Bing cherries and boiled or candied sweets making the wine appear simple and fruity. However, there is some fair concentration, a dollop of spicy oak and some chalky tannins. Youthful, the wine has a sappiness yet lacks much structure and delineation. Finishes medium with a twist of sour morello cherry. A touch of bitterness? yet I rather enjoyed it!

Medium ruby colour, the nose is forward and open and lacks the knit of the previous wine. A musky, old lady's perfume alongside red cherry and gentle spices.
It is a soft, slightly sweet entry, yet the tannins build and feel rough-edged with a dustiness. A little rough-shod, bordering on rustic.

A powerful, intense nose with oak toast, herbs, perfume and red fruits, mostly strawberry.
The palate reflects this with a silky smooth texture, excellent curvaceous shape and elegance. Medium to full-bodied, more than expected, the wine has a stunning depth of flavour and excellent concentration. Vivid strawberries, perhaps small wild strawberries, red cherry, oak-influenced with a long, persistent finish.

Medium ruby colour, the nose is expressive with bagfuls of red cherry, earth, mushroom and blood/iron.
The palate shows an intense, tight chalky acidity with sour cherry, mineral and a slightly herbal, almost green note. Elegant, the tannins have that chalkiness and rigidity that build to an austere finish, whilst the back palate seems to morph to herbaceousness and vegetal characters. Overall, I warmed to the wine as it had complexity and freshness that gave the wine plenty of interest. a serious wine that needed some contemplation.

Mid-deep ruby, almost blood red.
A warm, ripe fruit on the nose leads to a full-body entry, richly textured, Power and intensity. Fairly extracted on the tannin, the tannins are grippy and feel sultry and robust. However, as it opened in glass, the wine yielded somewhat, offering some perfume, freshness, and a long length. A comment was flavours of crushed snails that I personally didn't get!

[Tasted Blind] Light red through to an orange rim.
More development here with tertiary notes of plastic bottles and dried orange peel.
More evolution shows on entry with clear notes of mushrooms, earth and wet forest floor. Hessian tannins with minerals with pepper notes and a long length seem to make up for a more tertiary feel. As it opens, one gets the impression of whole clusters being used, and the acid starts to help give the wine direction. Seems to have that tertiary yet also retain freshness. No oak spice so more traditional, that made it enjoyable.

Light red with an orange rim. Fairly bright, intense nose with spices and ripe red cherry fruits. A sensual wine on the entry with sinewy, grippy tannins cut by a line of fresh strident acidity but coated in sweet fleshy ripe cherry fruit and compote. Long finish, Very good, well-structured wine.

Light to medium ruby through to an orange rim.
A sensual perfume that opens nicely, presenting red fruit but more savoury, truffles, marmite and game. A more mineral entry with a muscular feel, sinewy tannins and a Sauvage approach. There is a certain feral quality, animal and almost a little rustic, but the wine is compact, bone dry with lively acid and flavours of button mushroom, hung game and touches of brown spices on the medium finish. A little edgy for me.

Light red with orange rim.
A soft nose with strawberry, medicinal and metallic noted.
The entry is dry and earthy with animal, sinewy tannins and with a ferruginous quality. An exciting perfume in the mid-palate intrigues, but overall, the wine lacks a little stuffing and structural frame despite being quite elegant. Medium finish that has a firmer grittiness as the tannin builds.

2002 La Pousse d'Or Corton-Clos du Roi 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
A relatively light but bright red. A very oak-driven nose, intense yet with some ripe fruits.
Sweet entry, the wine has spice cake, hung game and earthy notes. Fairly open-knit, there are sour red cherries, lively acidity and a sinewy tannin. Medium weight, the wine is not massive, but there is richness and many spicey notes of clove and cinnamon. Some complexity and medium to long finish.
