Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2014 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Explicit nose, cherry and plums and forest soil. On the palate a fine minerality, cherrystone, herbal notes in the finish. Very well composed and for me this is the “old school” NSG that I like so much. Remind a lot of Emmanuel Rouget style. A solid structure. I love it. For sure many years ahead. If drinking now, give it a decant. Or better, keep 5+ in cellar. 92-93

  • 2014 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Most wonderful nose with wet forest soil and mushroom notes, and little barnyard (even better on the 2nd day). On the pate a fine fruit presence more gentle acidity than the H. Gouges but still firm structure of acidity to hold everything together. Very nice and long finish. As enjoyable it is here now, I still think it will be much better in 5-7 years. This is a great NSG. Perfect for the autumn season cuisine. I love this. 93+

  • 2013 Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

The typical Grivot floral sweetness in the nose. Together with NSG character. On the palate a fuller body fruit that the two others. All respect: it is not completely fair to compare two ´14s with a ´13s, but still, I would claim the Grivot to be more in the crowd-pleaser end of the scale where the two others are more classic NSG. (Yet still, this is a fine wine, genuine burgundy soul, and surely enjoyable to the last sip). These three wines to me also appeal to another of my observations in burgundy in general: the producers in general play best at their home field. Gouges and Chevillon are based in NSG when Grivot are based in Vosene Romanée. 88-90
