Tablas Creek Tasting at Chez Mitchell

Introduction

Recently, Tablas Creek offered to my wife's and friends' place of employment an online tasting event featuring four of their wines, which were offered as a package at a significant discount. Four of us convened at our friends' house for dinner and the tasting, and we supplemented the tasting with a couple additional bottles of Tablas from our collection.

More than anything else, this tasting really highlighted the importance of letting some wines rest/develop in the bottle. The first four wines listed below are the ones that were included in the tasting, and each of the three reds showed very light for what I've become accustomed to from those bottlings. A large part of me believes they were suffering from travel shock, as the wines were delivered (iirc) within 24 hours of the tasting. So, with that having been said, please take the notes on the '20 Mourvedre, '20 Grenache, and '17 Esprit rouge with a big grain of salt.

  • 2019 Tablas Creek Panoplie

USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles Adelaida District

BODY: magenta-garnet color of great depth; medium-full bodied.

TASTE: spicy; rich red fruits, but not gloppy; 13.5% alc. is hidden. Obviously, just a baby, and is best left to rest for a while.
