Golden orange, richly colored; high intensity aromatics, honeyed, nutty, oxidative, hazelnut; medium bodied, lemon zest, incredible freshness, medium-plus acidity, a little nutty and oxidative, persistent through the midpalate, medium alcohol; medium-plus finish. A very nice white, seems at early maturity. 93

  • 1998 Chateau Musar 93 Points

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

Decanted off significant sediment after standing for a week. Pale ruby-garnet, shows its age; aromatic, roses, some smoke, red fruit, cherry, spices; palate is medium bodied, elegant medium-plus acidity, 13.5% alcohol but could easily pass for lower, superb combination of red fruit with soy/balsamic complexity, tannins silky and fully integrated; finish is medium-plus length. This seems consistent with my previous bottles: stellar balance, more than typical elegance, showing some tertiary complexity, ready to drink now. 92
6 hours in bottle: singing, superb balance of acidity and tertiary flavors. Lovely. 92-93
Day 2: Honestly the same as last night, perhaps a touch less aromatic but just as complex on the palate. Held up well, which is also consistent with my last bottle.

Medium ruby, significant bricking consistent with its age; nose is aromatic, tertiary soy and balsamic, superb complexity, a bit of forest floor; palate is medium bodied, stellar fresh acidity, medium alcohol, flavors persistent through the midpalate; finish is medium length. Really nice, perfectly aged. 91

  • 2006 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo San Lorenzo 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Stood up for months, decanted off small fine sediment. Light-medium ruby, very slight bricking for nebbiolo at this age; aromatic, high toned red cherry, spice (clove, star anise), floral; palate is medium bodied, quite robust tannins for a Barolo from Verduno at this age, high acidity, fruit still relatively primary, black cherry; finish is medium length. Very drinkable with food and a good Barolo, but a bit deeper and rougher than I was expecting at this age from Verduno. One bottle left and I'll try to give it a few more years. 92+
6 hours in a decanter: Definitely more approachable, tannins a bit more integrated and showing more red fruits. Decant if opening now, but this will certainly last another decade or two easily.
Day 2: still lovely aromatics, spices; tannins still present on the palate but balances well with a risotto; medium finish. Lovely Barolo, excellent value for the price paid.
