J&S
Tasted Saturday, May 27, 2023 by AllRed with 60 views
Our hosts declared a theme of "older and younger," wishing to have each couple bring something with a bit of age, and something young/newly released. While they did not specifically request the wines be the same, we thought it would be fun/educational and grabbed a couple of extra bottles to have a four-bottle vertical spanning 30 years (Duhart).
Each taster brings a bottle in a brown bag, which is set on a table in areas designated as light, medium and heavy. The wines are mixed up slightly such that we don't know where our bottles are and tasted in flights. Each flight is discussed and unveiled before moving on to the next flight.
Nonblind with a terrific roasted beef tenderloin, roasted potatoes and beans.
We always look forward to our monthly tasting groups and catching up with everyone. Many thanks to J&S for a wonderful dinner and tasting.
2017 Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Blancs Dutton Ranch 92 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Nonblind starter, and quite good. Apple, almond and toast notes. Medium bead. Green apple dominates the palate with subtle toast and dough qualities carrying the finish. (J&S)

2020 Concha y Toro Sauvignon Blanc Terrunyo Los Boldos Vineyard Block 5 89 Points
Chile, Casablanca Valley
Double blind. Aromas of pine needle and soapy florals. Bright acidity on the palate. Perhaps just a bit lean on the fruit, but still enjoyable. Guessed albarino.

2020 Domaine du Bouchot Pouilly-Fumé La Vigne de 1955 86 Points
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Double blind. Quite similar to the first wine, very pale in color with aromas of soap dominating. Mineral and citrus undertones. Bright acidity and lean- I’d like a bit more fruit. Another that seemed very much to me like albarino.

2020 Marco Felluga / Russiz Superiore Collio Sauvignon 88 Points
Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Collio
Double blind. Deepest color of the three and very different from the first two wines. Aromas of wax, melon and pear. Softer acidity than the first two but still noticeable; the palate follows the bouquet.
