• 2022 Riecine Palmina Rosé

  Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

  Apparently a hit vintage. 100% Sangiovese. Deeper colour & more flavour than the Provençal style - more like a red. Peach and apricot nose, almond and amaretto. Fresh, salty finish, clean on the palate, good acidity.

• 2021 Riecine Bianco di Riecine Toscana IGT

  Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

  Only the second vintage. 100% Trebbiano, with long maturation giving a wonderful antique gold colour. Nose and colour suggest a sweet wine but there is almost no sweetness on the palate, but tea - black tea and chamomile. Grippy finish. Would go well with complex food. Delicious.

• 2021 Riecine Chianti Classico

  Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

  15-20year old vines. A modern-style CC. Vinification is the same as for the Reserva and the Gran Selezione, concrete tanks and old french oak. This was a hot vintage and apparently a good one for long aging. Currently v young, with crunchy red/black fruit and high acidity. Quite grippy, a bit too much for me, but good typicity.

  Greatly preferred to the CC tho the Gran Selezione is even better. This is from 35 year old vines. Better integrated, less grippy on the finish, and more generous. 7-8k bottles made.

  Only the second vintage. 55-year old vines and a real step up. Silk, detail, elegance. Complex. Lighter-bodied. VG.

• 2020 Riecine Riecine di Riecine Toscana IGT

  Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

  G’s favourite of the visit. Burgundian style. 100 Sangiovese from 65-yr old vines, no oak - concrete egg. Sweeter than the Gran Sel on the entry and palate, lighter bodied, Iacopo described it as being ‘without weight.’ Something special.

• 2019 Riecine La Gioia Toscana IGT

  I loved this, G not quite sure. 90% Sangiovese, 10% merlot (blend varies each year). New french oak for 24m. Glossy and deep, dark, sweet red fruits. Reminded me of the Coronato.

• 2018 Riecine Merlot Tre Sette Toscana IGT

  Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

  100% merlot, and noticibly so. More green on the nose, plummy notes. Altitude of Chianti Classico gives some acidity, and it’s drinkable, low-weight, ripe, but the finish struck us as rough and aggressive.

  We were offered a ‘special vintage’ - H’s birth year - and a great vintage it was. 100% Sangiovese, lush and glossy, I love this tho G not sure.
