Introduction

11 wines total. 3 whites and 8 reds, all from Burgundy, all from Becky Wasserman & Co. Only quick notes. Thank you to the hosts for a wonderful tasting!

Flight 1 - White Burgundy (3 Notes)

  • 2021 Domaine Nicolas Faure Bourgogne-Aligoté La Corvee de Bully

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne-Aligoté

Surprised by the other tasting notes. Quick note as this was wine 1 of 11 in a tasting:
Citrus, white flowers, unripe Granny Smith, apricot. Med to med+ body, med ++ acid, very long finish, and really nice oily texture. Days later I still remember the seductive texture. A wine that draws emotion! My favorite white wine of 3 and overall WOTN.

  • 2022 Raphaëlle Guyot Chardonnay Bourgogne Blanc L'Aurore

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

Wine 2 of 11. My least favorite of the whites. Melon, pear, slightly tropical, and sweet meyer lemon. Enters the palate slightly sweet and then finishes a bit bitter. Med acid, med finish. Wasn't the most exciting but it is quite young. I hope my 2 pinot noirs from this producer show better.

  • 2021 La Pierre Ronde Chardonnay Bourgogne

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Wine 3 of 11. Citrus, super floral (gardenia), sweet fruit, lemon candy - really nice aromatics. Light body, med+ acidity, med+ lingering finish. Nice, silky texture.

Flight 2 - Red Burgundy (8 Notes)

  • 2021 Les Horées Mon Poulain

    France, Burgundy, Coteaux Bourguignons

Wine 4 of 11. Very light in color, very fragrant, strawberries, floral, and baking spices (cinnamon). Low-med body, med+ acidity, med+ lingering finish. Really enjoyed this gamay-pinot noir blend.

  • 2020 Domaine Denis Bachelet Bourgogne

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Wine 5 of 11. This was my least favorite pinot noir of the lineup. Pure red fruit and vanilla oak. Med+ body, spice, med tannins, med+ acidity, and med finish. Good concentration. Apparently this wine sees no new oak but seemed oaky coming off of the Les Horees.

  • 2021 Domaine Chanterêves Nuits St. Georges Les Tuyaux

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges

Wine 6 of 11. My favorite pinot noir of the night. Light in color, dry and dusty dirt, clay, savory, salami, umami, and petrichor. Fruits were secondary to the savory notes: raspberry and delicate florals. Med++ acidity, med+ finish, very elegant. The host of the tasting detected Brettanomyces and said the wine wasn't showing as well as before, but it wasn't enough to deter me from liking this wine.

  • 2021 Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin Les Crais

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin

Wine 7 of 11. Cherry, red fruit, wet stone minerality, and floral. On the palate spice, tart, med+ acid, med+ finish, and med body. Really nice texture.

  • 2020 Georges Noellat Vosne-Romanée

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Wine 8 of 11. My first Georges Noellat and very pleased. Darker and deeper in color than the other pinot noirs in the lineup, red fruit, spice on the nose, wet stone minerality, floral, pretty on the nose. Nice concentration, spice on the palate, med acidity, med+tannins. Very classic red burgundy.

  • 2021 Petit-Roy Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Fichots

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru

Wine 9 of 11. Ruby-purple, smells feminine, petrichor, strawberry, red fruit, plum, elegant and floral. Med-acidity, med finish, med tannins, texture is like water but in a nice way. Could have used more acidity for my palate but very well made.

  • 2020 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Wine 10 of 11. Deep purple, cranberry, floral, and some minerality. Really good concentration, everything is in place, everything is in balance, classic Burgundy. Very elegant, great texture, med acidity and a long finish. I can't say that I've had a bad bottle of Bruno Clair!

  • 2020 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Wine 11 of 11. Ruby-purple, a lot of cherry, cherry-liquer, and black tea. Texture of water, med+ tannins, long finish. Of course Mugnier is great and this a good bottle but the stiff competition in the lineup puts this towards the bottom half of the reds.
