From a magnum. Wonderful, of course, with that fantastic acrid grip. The texture surprisingly soft, which makes it seem a bit less zingy. [Having looked at my past notes, I made the same point about the texture when we last had this from magnum)]
I seem to be lucky with 2004s. This was another fine, dense claret, nicely rich. This too had a touch of chocolate. Not hugely complex, perhaps, but very satisfying.

Very fine, classic chablis, with the acrid grip I look for.

2013 Ballot-Millot & Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 97 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
As good a white burgundy as I've ever had. Flamboyantly rich, but with powderiness and citrus too. Absolutely sensational.

2004 Vieux Château Certan
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Classic pomerol. Broad, smooth, a bit chocolatey, beautifully balanced and, I would guess, at its peak now.

2004 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
This followed the VCC and Rauzan-Segla from the same vintage and it was hard to separate them. This had a little bit more bite and a tad more depth.

2009 Château Rieussec
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Fat, opulent and apricotty. This is how I like my sauternes, with acidity giving it life.
