Certainly not a bad wine at its price point, but I am somehow not as impressed as the other tasters, even though I am a big fan of Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Rieslings. Even so, this was the third sweet white wine in a row at the start of the dinner - I thought the choices were a little strange from the sommelier, and my palate may have been a little tired of the sweetness by this time. It had nice golden coloured, pretty honeysuckle flower nose, with lime and grapefruit flavours. Palate was creamy and had a nice custardy texture with a sense of elegance in the way it came together and a really nice long finish with lots of wet, stony mineral. However, I found it a bit lightweight and was disturbed by the lack of acidity that makes gives the best Ausleses an ethereal nervosity. Nice, but that's about it for me.
Yellow gold colour, sweet honeysuckle and flower nose. Nectarine and apricot on the palate, slightly sweet almost liquered, with a burst of heat and spice at the tail. Very rich and ripe. Pleasant, but rather low on acidity and needs a bit more finish. I suspect this was not stored very well, as it tasted a bit tired.
I found this wine a little muted on the nose. The palate was sweet and raisiny. A little tight, but with good balance and a fresh, grassy finish. Nice.
I did not like this very much, Very buttery popcorn, OTT new world style, with the fruit very much subdued by the oak. Palate showed some tropical and citrus notes, but was rather imbalanced, with sourish acid overwhlming the other flavours. It finished rather short. Pity, the wine showed good, concentrated fruit flavours and had the potential to do better.
Interesting choice of wine by the sommerlier. Reddish brown colour, interesting berry / cherry, coconut and earth flavours. The palate was sweet, but had good fresh drying acid and fine, powdery tannins. Impressive structure, and a pretty nice finish as well. Certainly a wine of some quality.
Nice golden hue, with lovely perfumed flowers on the nose. Sweet palate, with beeswax, flowers and honey. Almost Sauterne like in its taste and texture. Good acid throughiout. Quite yummy, but not mind blowing.
