  • 2002 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 97 Points

    France, Champagne

MG Bottle. Lovely and intense with a great flavor depth of both green and bruised apples but also a piercing acidity. As the night progressed, it kept evolving into a very balanced wine.
It started of showing a lot of coffee bean and sweet green apples but changed character to be more the classic Krug style. Loved it and it was simply stunning to try this from MG where it still felt very young!

  • 1995 Henriot Champagne Cuvée des Enchanteleurs Brut 94 Points

From magnum it still shows a lot of fresh acidity despite the flavors showing mushrooms and bruised apples. An impressive wine with a fine balance. Loved it!

  • 1989 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Brut Millésimé La Collection Crayeres 95 Points

    France, Champagne

From magnum. Creamy and lovely palate of green/yellow apples with a touch of spice and lovely lemon acidity.
I don't remember the disgorgement date but I would expect it to be around 2019/20 due to the youthfulness and vibrant acidity.
It evolves very nicely in the glass taking some of the hard edges off it leaving a fine and balanced wine! Great wine!

  • 1979 Perrier-Jouët Champagne Belle Epoque 97 Points

    France, Champagne

From magnum that was disgorged in 2022/23.
What a HUGE wine with the recent disgorgement. Explodes out of the glass with lemon and green apple fruit and the palace is packed with depth, intensity and a youthful balance.
The lemon acidity is vibrant but complex and keeps evolving in the glass where it seems like an extremely young wine. I would not have thought that a late disgorgement would be able to maintain this amount of freshness over so many years. Hugely impressive!
If the bottle was kept for 5 more years subsequently adding more complexity to the wine I don't see how it wouldn't be able to reach a 99p level.

  • 2019 Emrich-Schönleber Auf der Ley Riesling Großes Gewächs 99 Points

    Germany, Nahe

From magnum and decanted for 12+ hours. This wine was immediately catapulted into the highest level of GG Rieslings I have ever tried.
Jumps out of the glass with green apples, petroleum and mixed green herbs. The palate is structured, creamy and packed with intensity and flavor. The acidity is wild and intense but still in balance and matches all flavor intensity.
The wine continues to develop in the glass both as air and temperature increases and it never backs down and just continues to improve. A legendary wine!

  • 2019 Arnaud Ente Meursault La Seve du Clos 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Beautiful and classic but also in a very restrained way. Packed with minerals and acidity combined with an elegant and restrained fruit.
Initially it feels more like Chablis but as it get more air and temperature, the Mersault fruit comes forward. It is however still quite restrained but also with an impressive balance. Loved it!

  • 1990 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses 95 Points

    France, Champagne

Packed with mushroom and bruised red apple fruit combined with a lovely acidity.
The wine is very structured and to some extent a bit harsh but this is how I feel that this wine should evolve.
There was avid discussions about if this wine was defective but for me, this is just how CdG evolves.
But, it does become more extreme with a huge structure and clear bitterness when it get as old as this bottle is. Loved it! 95-96p

  • 2009 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

From magnum. Refined and precise wine with lots of drinking pleasure. It has refined light cherry and strawberry fruit and a touch of wet leaves. But, it does present itself as a very young wine still.
There is a touch of For me, it lacked a bit of intensity but overall, it was a great wine!

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Stunning dark fruit and only showing slight age. Persistent and fruity aftertaste with lovely fine-grained tannins. This will last for a very long time but also a lovely wine to drink right now.

  • 1990 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

From magnum. Red currant and raspberry fruit but it is difficult to find behind the very "animalistic" style of the wine. The wine simply explodes with perfume and flavors of wet fur, barnyard and grilled mushrooms.
It is certainly not a wine for everybody due to the very animalistic notes :-) There is plenty of spicyness and a decent aftertaste. I loved it a lot but there were some discussions around the table where some were claiming that it was corked. I did not find anything wrong with the bottle but simply claim that an old Beaucastel is simply a very special wine :-)

All flavors are clean and pure yielding a lovely expression of the vintage. From magnum it seems to have hit its perfect drinking window.
