Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2007 Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica 68 Points

    Italy, Marche, Verdicchio di Matelica

Nose: Lots of wet leaves, some citrus fruit, quite fresh and zesty. Palate: Too sharp on the mid-palate, too alcoholic, some wood but no real flavour. A bit minerally, fresh and pretty good acidity but completely disjointed. Very very short finish. Very disappointing.

  • 2006 Tamellini Soave Classico Superiore 86 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Soave Classico Superiore

Nose: Very nice. Tinned peaches and pineapple rings. Palate: Very silky mouthfeel, a little drying on the sides of the tongue. Caramelised fruit. Good acidity at the back, not too harsh. Nice toastiness. Warm, pretty long finish. Very good. For £10 retail I'm giving this a pass.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 2007 Ciù Ciù Rosso Piceno Bacchus 85 Points

    Italy, Marche, Rosso Piceno

Nose: Armoatic. Alocohol well under control. Lots of dark fruit but not too heavy. PAlate: A bit tannic but not too much. Plums and blackberries. Finish a little bitter but not in a bad way. Again, alcohol under control. Good. Better wines exist for this price point (£7) but it's not a bad buy.

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2003 Tenuta Ponte Irpinia Carazita 88 Points

    Italy, Campania, Irpinia

Nose: Seems a little muffled. Quite hot, earthy, a little spice. Some fruit but more earthy than fruity. Smells like potpourri. Palate: More tannic. Brooding, earthy, withered leather. Very tasty. Needs decanting. Good acidity. Juicy. I like this wine. Retails for £10.

Flight 7 (1 Note)

  • 2004 Castello dei Rampolla Chianti Classico 87 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Nose: A little alcoholic. Not masses going on. Palate: Good fruit, good acidity, not bitter, alcohol under control. Very good. I'm not blown away, especially considering the price (£16), but it's very good.

Flight 8 (1 Note)

  • 2000 Rocche Costamagna Barolo Rocche Dell'Annunziata 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Nose: Big, thick, a little sour red fruit. Rich and heady. Reduced fruit sauce. Palate: Explosion of beautiful sour fruit, oak very under control rounding it out really nicely. Fantastic mouthfeel. Drinking very well now but will keep some. For £24 retail it's pricey...
