Tasted Saturday, October 22, 2005 by Wrighty with 607 views

Introduction

Appetiser of sesame encrusted seared tuna and salmon sashimi served with a green salad dressed in rosemary and ginger dressing. Main course was lamb and pork chops served with gratin potatoes.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2005 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 87 Points

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

Inital sweet round mouth fill but this was quickly replaced by a sharp almost sour, metalic taste. Not typical Cloudy Bay but also not the mopre typical zingy NZ Sauvignon Blanc.

  • 2000 Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir Reserve 91 Points

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

Big aroma on opening the bottle but faded quite quickly after decanting, although OK in the glass. Wild strawberrys and currants with some noticeable oak. Definetly new world but not sure how much better the reserve is than the normal.

  • 2001 Domaine Ponsot Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée L'Abeille 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

Disappointing. Interesting nose on opening but faded in decanter and never regained it in the glass. Initial fruit of cherries but flat mid palette and little finish. Another Burgundy that doesn't encourage me to try more.

  • 1999 Niebaum-Coppola Rubicon 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

Tasted blind with no indication what we were drinking. Initially thought it was a Barsossa Shiraz. Nose of berry fruits, pepper and chocolate. Big mouth feel with soft fruity hit followed by a long dry finish (the hint it wasn't a Barossa!)

  • 1999 Seppelt Shiraz St Peters 91 Points

Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Great Western

Drank straight from the wine fridge so took a little while to open up. Not as big or tight as expected and drinking OK now. Well balanced with plenty of new world fruit but balanced by fine tannins
