My favorite local wine merchant rings my cell in the morning. "Dude, can you get down here? Gaston is here pouring Musar!" I am there in a jiff and start enjoying a series of Chateau Musar wines with the representive of Broadbent Selections, my buddy Ken from the distributor and Gaston Hochar. We started off at the wine shop with the alternate wines and the 98-90 Chateau. Later, after a quick shower, I met up with the party at a local restaurant to re-taste the wines and partake of the treasures of the 1972 and 1969.
2003 Chateau Musar Cuvée Blanc
Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Light and fresh with slight dusty notes. Not complex, but enjoyable and solid.

1998 Chateau Musar Blanc
Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Started on this at the wine shop, continued drinking it over lunch a couple hours later. Very closed at first, tight nose with tannic spritz. Blossomed up in a beautiful wine with dusky Semillon notes. Great minerality with a suprising lushness and a tinge of sweetness. Long finish. In the past, I have compared this to D'Yquem's 'Y,' but no one else has agreed. Total vindication as Gaston Hochar told me his father agreed completely after having been given a 'Y' blind.
