Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2005 Yarra Yering Chardonnay 82 Points

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    (12/25/2009)

Slightly more complexity and build as previously but the buttery vanillin oak is somehow more pronounced. However, the fresh beam of lemon does lift this wine up nicely. Finish is present but not pleseantly long.

  • 1995 Comte Senard Corton-Clos des Meix 82 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    (12/25/2009)

Stewed hawthorne berries and cherries intermixed with touches of earthy undertones but at this moment the sweet fruit is really showing quite a bit and the acid dying down. Needs to be drunk sooner than later. Still a very pretty wine to drink.

  • 1996 Comte Senard Corton-Clos des Meix 82 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    (12/25/2009)

This glass seemed so different from the other previous bottlings. It started out fishy! but once that blew off the usualy burgundian earth and stewed tea with dried fruit bits came forward. Kinda sappier and feels a little cooked. Not as interesting that I first reminded and does have more acidity than the 95 as well as deeper layered fruits. Somehow a bit dissappoointed by this bottling. Still get the milo powderyness though. Either a badly stored bottle or maybe it is starting to break down.

  • 1990 Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Orveaux 84 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

    (12/25/2009)

The bottle I heard is a bit of an oddity as not many knew that LJ made an Orveaux. Still deeply red and almost opague. This was so much the younger wine than the 95 and 96 corton we had. Infused brooding black cherries, some woodspice and quite shy . Dark soy notes does surface with time. Strucutured palate with hard characteristics. Kinda rough and ruggard. Big wine with extraction. Probably really needed another 10 years to come together. As of now, quite awkward.
