Jammy enough to put on toast, finish was concentrated blackberry cobbler.

California fruit bomb that exploded nicely into cassis and black raspberry. Very long. Good acidity. Lovely wine on its own. Good with boneless ribeye roast.

Blackish red. Crushed blueberry, violet, and spice nose. Medium to full bodied, fresh plums, blackberries, fine tannins, black cherry pie, and a very nice, tongue coating finish. Best on day 2.

Well past it’s prime at this point. Limited fruit and disjointed acidity. Pop it if you have it (or if you find it in the depths of your parents cellar like me) and likely pour it out.

Retail $20. Under screw cap. Almost precisely two years ago, I first tasted this wine, and I really liked it. A lot. Two years later? I still do, perhaps even more. While most consider Albariño to be a wine to be consumed fairly young, the added bottle time in this wine seems to have done it a world of good. Sure, the main points in my previous note remain accurate, but this wine is richer, even a bit honeyed (though far from oxidized), rendering it a full two points higher.

Retail $20. Zin blend. Gig 5. Big Ass Bottle. I do not know a whole lot about this wine other than it is a non-vintage blend of mostly Zinfandel and it is a solera wine (each vintage, new wine is added to the tank that contains wine from several vintages already, thus the *exact* blend is impossible to determine). I was about to throw this bottle into the "Doubles Pile" which, briefly, is when i receive two bottles of the same wine. But. Given the above (that this is a solar wine), this is actually an iteration *after* my last tasting note. I know, confusing, but trust me, it makes sense. This wine is both a bit fruitier as well as more complex than the previous iteration (Gig 4) and while this leans toward a crowd-pleaser kinda wine, I am certainly in the crowd on this one.

Retail $25. Heavy bottle. 100% Petite Sirah. I have stated countless times that PS is far from my favorite variety. Very far. But I have always enjoyed the Mettler version. Inky dark in the glass with rich black raspberry compote, plum, cassis, and a heavy dose of mocha. In fact, I would say that the mocha is the primary note here and the fruit takes a bit of a back seat. The roles are reversed on the palate as the fruit is front and center and refuses to give up the stage. That fruit is magnificent from start to finish with a burst of tartness and a touch of black earth. Excellent.
