3/25/2013 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 91 pointsRetail $40?. Once again, this wine rocked. I can’t believe how this wine continues to deliver and that we got it for a little more than $10. I rarely say this, but if this wine comes up on Last Bottle again, buy a case (I have bought two and I will get another). I really would like to know the story as to how/why these guys went out of business (maybe the price point was a bit too high, but this certainly tastes like a $30+ wine). Apparently, they also made a Pinot Noir, but I have not had it. Excellent 90-92 Points. |

1/22/2019 - studleytrey Likes this wine: 91 pointsLast of a case and these have been a fantastic QPR at Last Bottle's closeout price of $12. Definitely drinks like a $30-60 chardonnay. Consistent with '16 note and amazingly still drinking well, though some oxidative notes are creeping in (not detracting at this point, but I'd probably drink em if you got em). Awesome. |

9/6/2017 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 89 pointsI bought a couple of cases of this wine from Last Bottle a few years ago. Apparently, the winery went out of business and they sold the remaining stock to the online flash seller for a song. I ended up getting this purported $50 Chardonnay for $10. I ordered a case and tried it almost as soon as it landed (illegally) on my stoop. And it wasn’t bad. I am not sure if I would pay $50 for it, but $10? Heck yeah! So when it came up again, I bought another case. Well, we have reached the end of the road on this wine and I highly doubt there will be any more (in fact, I am sure of it). So why bother writing a note? Good question. I guess it is just what wine geeks do. Golden in the glass with lemon zest creamsicle and slight notes of oxidation on the nose. On the palate, this certainly falls into the “big, oaky, California Chardonnay" category, but I have room for that in my cellar and repertoire. And that is just fine with me. thedrunkencyclist.com 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2/20/2017 - VoiceofC Likes this wine: 95 pointsI was afraid this might have faded, at 11 years of age. Not so! It was fresh and beautiful, lovely fruit, just a hint of oak. Looking forward to the next bottle. |

I believe I've had others since, but this is certainly more balanced than my '13 note with regard to the alcohol. Deep, rich golden color. Aromas of saline, butterscotch, buttered popcorn, vanilla, coconut, and tropical fruits like pineapple and papaya. Medium body, acid, and finish, with flavors of waxy yellow fruits, almond, and saline. |

6/19/2016 - mdvino63 wrote: 90 pointsBizarrely, this actually improved after open for 2 hours. No doubt, though, that this has started on the downward slope, but it is still beautiful. For those who like a mature touch to their chardonnay this will be a point, just now (don't have the accent grave to put over the 'a'), but I think the oxidized characteristics will take over, the fruit drop more, and the alcohol begin to stand out more. I'm still really liking it tonight, though. Bonnie finds it a bit too much this time around, but her initial thought was, "this tastes like a really expensive wine, though not really my style". $12 expensive. If I found a $20 chardonnay that drank this well, I'd buy it by the case. Hard to believe this is 10 years old, now. Well done. |

2/2/2016 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 90 pointsWow. It has been over a year since I wrote that I needed to get to the last two bottles sooner rather than later. Well, I should have heeded my own advice. While this is still a fine example of an old-school Chard, father time has sneaked in a bit with a hint of oxidation. Don't get me wrong, this is still a solid Chard, particularly if you like a bit of oak and a dash of butter. Yum. thedrunkencyclist.com |

11/8/2014 - thesternowl Likes this wine: 91 pointsPopped and poured. Remarkably, still very enjoyable...if you can appreciate well aged Chardonnay. Quince and nuts. Acid has kept this beauty alive. Showing oh so well on its 8th year. That being said, it's on a gradual decline so drink them if you've got them; only down from here. |

10/16/2014 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 90 pointsIt is getting down to the nitty-gritty on this wine. I bought two cases of this a couple of years ago, and after this one, there are but two left. A bit of an old-style Chardonnay with a bunch of oak and vanilla, but I really dig this wine. I think I need to get to the other two bottles soon, but the last drop will be a melancholic event. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com |
