We opened a total of six wines, three white, three red, trying to cover all the bases not knowing what pot luck side dishes would arrive. The main staple was a tomato based chicken orzo soup that was a hit. |

The color was appropriately dark inky purple. It will get a little better with time but I found it fun and good. We were serving in nice but plastic wine glasses so we could not comment on viscousity. good stuff |

Inky purple, chewy, just the right amount of Oak and cedar, smoked meats came to mind, casis and all around lushness. Great drink. We finished both and tone it down a notch to the 05 Cask by Rubicon, a soft landing. |

7/30/2010 - ewineguy wrote: 90 pointsThis great Zin, Cab, Syrah pour is always a hit. Its deep dark purple, not a big nose but explodes fruits and spices in the mouth. You get plums, cherries, but the fruits seem well balanced and full bodied not sweetie tarty. It has kind of a chewy quality to it. Went great with the Mexican Food we had. |

2/22/2009 - ewineguy wrote: 90 pointsDev and I enjoyed this at home in CA and had chicken salad sandwiches with it. Dark inky in color and it really grabbed the Reidell well. She picked up on some earthy dirt and leather, and while I got some of that I found it softer and berryish. The taste was lush and full. I got pepper and dark berries and some minerals but in a real nice way. This is drinking nice now but should set up well. |

I was anxious to get it home and enjoy it with a turkey melt. Devin and I enjoyed the simplicity of it. It was not as dark as other had reported but a deep violet in color. Some florals hit the nose first and it coasted nice in the mouth. It was not complex. Some berries that I cxould not name. The power of suggestion madr them raspberries. It kind a tingled on the tongue which was nice sensation. While I look forward to getting this in the wine room, these will not last long. Good stuff. |

2/12/2019 - ewineguy Likes this wine: 90 pointsWe had moved about 70 bottles from the Draper house to the new wine room in Heber. This bottle was actually a test to see how some of the wines held up to not "Perfect", storage. Beyond it''s Ideal drinking window, I was not expecting much. It was very good. It had lost a bit of its umph from earlier tastings but it mellowness was not offensive. The florals had died a way but the smoky meaty vanillaish licorice essence came through only a bit more mellow. I think that was my last one. |

7/17/2010 - ewineguy wrote: 91 pointsMario and Joann came over for a nice meal of bone in rib eye. We kept this to pour with the meal. Dark dark inky purple. Coffee-espresso, currants, and spices came to mind on the nose. Then a few flowers but nothing over the top. In the mouth a big splash of spices, earthiness, smoky meats, and a hint of licorice. I did not get the licorice but was eventually talked into it. It had a chewy feel to it which I liked. These Walla Walla/Yakima cabs are spectacular. This pour had a strong resemblance to the mathews at a much higher price. Good stuff |

12/24/2009 - ewineguy wrote: 92 pointsI opened this in my continuing quest to learn more about Yakima Valley Washington Cabs. We were having a Christmas Eve Taco party with our friend Brian and Elizabeth. I was anxious to try this again as I had a bottle this summer and it was good. It was a dark plum color but lightened up around the rim. On the nose I got berries (sorry can’t nail them), cloves, and a hint of vanilla. Really pleasant. This was thick and chewy in the mouth. More fruits and spices. It went great with the tacos, though I could think of a few Zins I had that could have matched better. It went well with some cheese and grapes afterwards. |

4/20/2010 - ewineguy wrote: 89 pointsAgain, not very popular at the party. I did not do a good job of selling the special attributes of the Temp grape. This was a dark real dark purple glass of wine, almost inky black. It was very earthy, more sos than other Haza's I have tasted. The nose was loaded. I got berry, meaty, exotic florals. As it opened, it was still a little stiff. There was a lot going on and I could not gove this pour justice. I have 10 left and really took forward to enjoying it on its own. |

4/20/2010 - ewineguy wrote: 91 pointsThis was a hit. It was dark puplr in the glass, it looked rich and sticky though the glasses we served it in did not do it justice. It was smokey and oaky but a nice tannin balance. Berry and currants came across. People were mentioning licorice and earthy. No one said it was over the top. To Simi's credit, even neophytes enjoyed this big red. Bravo. Glad I have 6 left. A great vlaue. |

10/4/2008 - ewineguy wrote: 90 pointsThis was opened at our anual Oktoberfest party. We always had a problem finding a decent german red so this year I quit trying. I read about this wine and picked up two cases from Amazing Grapes who gave it a great vote of confidence. I tried it right out of the bottle with rental stemware. The color was gorgeous, inky purple and dark. It had a mild floral nose to it that had me concerned about standing up the worcst were serviing up that night. On the tongue, it had a real nice spcy little kick to without a lot of acidity. There was also some pepper and smokey feel to it. It was the hit of the party depsite some nice zins and a couple of great reislings. Eighteen bottles made it down that hatches. For the money, one of the best wine buys I've mad in a while. |

4/20/2010 - ewineguy wrote: 89 pointsI enjoyed this at the party. I think some people get scared away by the name chianti not knowing how nice the sangiovese grape can be. This was a dark ruby colored pour. I got cherry, florals, hardwood, a nice balance of tannins and a frutiy but not sweet taste. In the mouth it was a big fruity pour but not sweet. Just this side of chewy. |

4/20/2010 - ewineguy wrote: 90 pointsThis tuscan blend like the chianti poured this night was not popular. By far most people went for the Landmark Cab (See note). I just had a taste of this and propbaly did not focus enough on the blend of sang, cab, merlot. I look forward to trying this again by itself. Don't get me wrong, it was not offensive, but maybe a bit young and there were too many distractions. Look for a future note. I rate it a 90 because of the other reviews and what I expect to be a great bottle of wine. |

6/20/2008 - ewineguy wrote: 87 pointsNice table wine. Douglas N. from Great Britain and I enjoyed this with a nice dinner at Goodwood BBQ in Draper UT. It was dark and purple but I would only be guessing at the viscousity as the stemware was lousy. We enjoyed a couple of steaks with this acidic rough at first Cab. Either it or we mellowed out by the end of the meal as we quit complaining about it and finished the bottle. Not much of a nose, acidic, some eathy niess, a bit of plum or dark berries. I wouldn't cellar it, but when in Goodwood, it their best wine. PS 7.00 Corkage fee I would suggest BYO. |

This was an affordable pleasnat surprise. It was a reddish but dark wine and just chewy enough to hold the glass. Crisp, a little acidic, some fruits and leather, and very smooth, wasy to drink. Enjoyable and simple. |

It was served a bit too cold, at least in my opinion. As I warmed it with my palms, there was a slight appricot/apple essence to the aroma. It had no structure to it was so ever almost watery. On the tongue, some mineral and acidic feel. Not one I'd have in my cellar. |

3/31/2010 - ewineguy wrote: 90 pointsThis arrived at the table at Hannah’s as a nice surprise from my buddy Ben. It was our second big red of the night. It closely followed a 06 Caymus Select. This 80% cab, 10% merlot blend was nice. It had a earthy smoky nose to it. I would have guessed more merlot in the blend from the nose and the taste. There were a little floral in the bouquet, but not much, just earthy smells and little berry. In the glass it was a beautiful purple leaning toward a brown hue, (could have been the lighting). In the mouth again very earthy mineraly with a big fruit feel to it. I felt it either needed more time in the bottle or at the very more time open. It was a great way to close out the night. Thanks Ben. I got one on the shelf at home. |

5/31/2008 - ewineguy wrote: 88 pointsThere was an incredible lunch served at the Post Hotel Wine Summit at Lake Louise Alberta Canada on Saturday May 31st. There were plenty of wines served with the Tartlet of Leek with Black Truffle White Wine Chive Sauce, Medallions of Veal Tenderloin with Porcini and dry sack Veal Jus Risotto and Chinese Broccoli, and Chilled Rhubarb Soup with Raspberry Sorbet. A nice but plain 2004 Baron d’Arques was matched with the Medallions of Veal. This was probably the least spectacular of all the wines presented this weekend. It was dark garnet in color, not what you’d expect from a relatively big Bordeaux. The aromas were subtle but you had to work to get the cigarish, cassis, and maybe rose influence. The taste was pleasant and maybe mismatched against a rich and potent risotto. I did get some pepper and a hint of thyme and was surprised at how not jammy the wine was. This was a plain Jane in a house of beauties this weekend. |

The pale strawyellow was perfect in color. On the nose we had some exotic florals, minerals and citrus. It clung to the glass in amazind dispaly of viscosity. In the mouth we had subtle minerals, citrus, appricots, macadamia nuts, pistacio, and butter. Wow this was incredible enough to make me hunt up more. |
