2007 Copain Pinot Noir Hacienda Secoya

Anderson Valley more

I found this wine to be unforgettably captivating. Wells Guthrie has an old-world style, and while I find some of his offerings to be a bit harsh or unruly, the Hacienda Secoya, particularly in this vintage, was a pinnacle of pinot noir winemaking. There is the usual red fruit, to be expected from an Anderson Valley pinot, but what really carries this wine is its tannic backbone. The body and mouthfeel are reminiscent of top Burgundies. This was a special (and perhaps underrated) wine, which I would highly recommend, from a vineyard which I would follow closely.
