Tasting room visit- 1/15. A little vegetal on the bouquet, almost like a Carmenere- bell pepper and coffee but little fruit. The fruit comes in on the palate with cherry and black raspberry along with cassis and vanilla. Elegant round tannins and a lush finish.

Didn't like this as much as the 2007. Still a good, but missing something...

Beautifully crafted wine that was opened at its peak. Dark fruits speckled with hints of vanilla, coffee and tobacco. Soft tannins followed with a long smooth finish.

A big black fruit nose. Intense fruit with licorice, chocolate smoke that finish with big tannins.

The wine is dark cherry in color with medium+ concentration. On the nose is baking spice, cooked dark fruit, nutmeg, flowers, some oak. On the plate there is heat, stewed dark fruit, spice. It's a little grippey. Tannins are med(+). Body is light, call it medium(-). Acidity is medium. Fruit is med(+). Depth, length, weight, and complexity are minimal, and it doesn't really stand out, but it is solid. 89. At $32, I think it is slightly overpriced.

Santa Barbara Winetasting Trip Day 1: Rusack, Cold Heaven and Palmina (Ballard Canyon, Buellton and Lompoc, Central Coast, California): Medium dark red violet color; tart red currant, cassis, ripe Cabernet Franc, French oak nose; tight, velvet textured, tart red currant, cassis, anise, red berry palate, needs 4 to 5 years; medium-plus finish (80% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot)

PnP (notes from day 2): Blood-red core, opaque; rose-clear meniscus. Floral and aromatic nose; rose, licorice, graphite, faint maple/vanilla and spice. Juicy mouthfeel. Palate of black tea/tar, tart boysenberry, tobacco leaf, orange oil. Short+ finish. An elegant bottling, but agree with a previous reviewer that this is lacking depth and finish for the price.

Decent, but ultimately not a good value and lacks complexity and depth.

Aromas of jalapeno, star anise, rose petals and coffee with more flavors of jalapeno and earth, black cherry, dried cranberry, cocoa with very lush, velvety tannin finish. A big WOW wine, save for special occassions.

Dark purple color. Not a lot of fruit on the nose-- but could detect some black currants and a very little hint of smoke. Spicy earth tones on the palate gave way to moderate tannins. Oak is noticeable but not obnoxious. Much better than the last bottle I had.

Holding up well. Still a hint of jalapeno, but more mellowed and melded flavors now. Good tannins, rich flavors similar to that noted previously. Might not be as "wow" because not decanted and just opened, but a very lovely wine still.

Real solid effort. Well integrated tannins and good fruity juice. Equally good on night #1 and #2.

This wine is changing a lot over time. Nose of dust and pencil with light fruit and spice. Flavors are quite tart with sour cherry, raspberry, and blueberry with dust and light spice. Good tannins, long finish but quite tart. This wine might have peaked already, or will need to age a few more years to get over this hump.

I was a little worried about this one when we tasted at the winery a couple years ago, but what a couple of years can do. Fully integrated fruit, smooth but firm tannins. Elegant. Really enjoyed this as did everybody else. I hope the 2006 is as good.

Drank with the JTT. Nice bottle of wine, smooth, and soft tannins. Could use some more aging, wish I would have held onto this one for a year more or so.

This wine could have laid down for several more years, but it was quite good. Good cab flavors, but very tannic for our taste. We wish we had a second bottle to compare a few years from now. Could be a 90 in a few years.

This wine really came around! Smooth aromas of roasted red fruits, raspberry, blackberry, and hint of menthol. Clear dark garnet in color. Smooth, velvety flavors of cassis, currant and eucalyptus with a long, luscious finish. A perfect wine to celebrate our plethora of eggplant with parmigiana!

This wine was much better than the first which I am now convinced was flawed. This was drank over 2 days and was more integrated the second day. Nice dark fruit with cassis, vanilla and a smooth finish. Good wine at a good price. Very bordeaux like in its flavor profile.

Concentrated and tight nose of blueberries. Mellows out with more barrel notes coming out as it opens up in the glass. Very nice balance between dark fruit flavors and tannin. Slight alcohol heat (14.7% alc.). Nice acidity. Velvety finish that balances nicely with acidity. Nice and gentle tannic grip at the end. Still fairly wound up and young at this stage. This could go for at least a couple more years, probably more.

If it drinks like a Cab Franc, then call it a Cab Franc. Maybe there's some law I don't know about but at 80% it is...and that's ok. Very dry with firm but softening tannic structure that has coffee and a hint of a bouquet of flowers on the nose. Dark berries and cocoa. Very good now but I'd hold it until 2013.
