The palate is on the fuller end of medium-bodied, very well structured, expansive with a some residual silky tannins as expected given its young age, a touch of alcohol peeking through which isn’t too bad considering its 15.5% ABV indicated on the label. The flavor components include dark fruits such as cassis, black plum, diluted Chinese ink, mild oak with a touch of menthol and vanilla cream before giving way to a very fresh and light layer of rich earthy complexity highlighted by a delicious chalky minerality towards a moderately long finish. I really like the fresh fruity lift in this young wine. Overall, this is a really beautiful young Cabernet Sauvignon that is sure to improve with more time in a bottle. Paired nicely with a delightful country French fare for a memorable lunch experience in Yountville, Napa Valley. |

I’m usually not a big Petit Sirah fan because they tend to bring too much tannin to the mid palate for me, but I really like this one. It’s much softer and balanced. Inky dark color, rich, not too spicy fruit. Not too much alcohol. Again, very balanced and great to drink alone or with food. Chicken pot pie is on the menu for tonight. |
