2021 Childress Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc GlowNorth Carolina more |
9/9/2023 - Sheldog Does not like this wine: 69 pointsI always try to find something positive about any wine I drink. My positive comment with this one is that it was cool and wet. This is the first true bomb we have ever had at Childress in over 10 years of wine club membership. We dumped it in the bushes and drank something else. It didn’t cost much but it is way overpriced. Should never have been bottled. |

2020 Childress Vineyards Montepulciano Barrel SelectYadkin Valley more |
2/21/2023 - Sheldog Likes this wine: 87 pointsBeing that this was the first release of Montepulciano from Childress, I had low expectations. But this was a very nice wine—drinkable and not really cellar aging worthy but we should not be afraid to serve this to our friends. Good quality v price. Can’t wait to see the vintages of this in the coming years. |

12/17/2019 - TRguy wrote: 79 pointsUnable to detect any aromas, totally lacking any nose at all. I can’t recall ever having a wine totally lacking in this respect before. On the palate some red cherry, and cedar, not unpleasant, short finish, lacking any complexity. |

10/23/2021 - Sheldog wrote: 84 pointsBack when Childress had only one Sangiovese wine (no reserve) it used to be pretty good. Now the Barrel Select is not so good and the Reserve is the good one. I’m guessing they are using the most mature vine grapes in the reserve and the younger one in this. Whatever they are doing, this is a porch-pounder now. Buy the Reserve and be happy. |

12/6/2020 - Sheldog Likes this wine: 88 pointsThis has always been a Childress favorite from our first visit several years ago. We did a side-by-side with a ‘14 Sangiovese from Napa with Osso Bucco. This was an excellent wine pairing, by the way. Not surprisingly, the Napa had more structure and tannin base but the Childress was right there with it in nose and taste. It was on the finish that the two departed ways. It wasn’t a bad thing, after all they are very different in soil, climate and growing season. The prices were similar which gave a slight value edge to the Napa wine. |

4/22/2017 - pablopilot Likes this wine: 89 pointsWay better than I would have thought a Carolina Chardonnay had any right to be. Goes great with Bojangles fried chicken. Crisp, focused, precise. Some caramel, some underlying medicinal qualities. Very long finish, great glycerin. No reason not to drink this if you're in the RDU airport and have a half hour and $14 (btg) to kill! |

2/2/2021 - Sheldog Likes this wine: 88 pointsWe love this wine. NC style is lighter and less tannic than CA but still has that great Merlot flavor profile. Still some plumb and cherry on the nose and palate. Not overly complex but well balance with resolved acidity. It is drinking really well right now. But I would drink up before the end of 2022. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

6/2/2021 - Sheldog wrote: 88 pointsLacking any fruit on the nose. In fact the nose is pretty absent. Still good acidity on the taste. A dustiness on the finish with some decent residual tannins. Certainly not as big as a Cali PV but I believe that this is one of the best PVs I have had from NC. I’d say this is a little past peak with virtually no detectable fruit. However, it was still great with the filets we cooked on the Traeger. |

12/26/2020 - Sheldog Likes this wine: 88 pointsI am always pleasantly surprised when I have a very good NC red wine—especially a Cabernet Sauvignon. This varietal just doesn’t seem to do well in NC but somehow Childress makes it work. Well balanced with great flavors of cherry, cola and even some coffee on the finish. Tannins are light which is to me expected. I may keep the wine from aging a long time but it is drinking well right now and probably will for 2-3 more years. |
