10/28/2023 - viniferatu Likes this wine: NRbeautiful stuff, not what I expect from Lodi Syrah, this is bold and ripe but so fresh and easy, and only 13% abv... fresh and lifted on the nose, mostly fruity, only subtle Syrah spice and umami at this point, though it will likely go that direction in 5 years or so... very fine tannins, and not a lot of them, exuberant ripe fruit through the finish... lovely stuff, if a little more straightforward than I would expect from a Pax Syrah, where's the olive and meat? no worries, this is excellent... |

2/5/2023 - Old Gray Hare Does not like this wine: 80 pointsI agree with the smoke and charcoal descriptors, especially on the finish. This was not at all subtle, so I surmise there may be some type of barrel or lot variance. It was also not pleasant. I used the wine as part of a marinade for a beef stew (where it worked well), but couldn't drink the rest of the bottle with our meal. |
