2010 Lillian Winery SyrahSanta Barbara County more |
7/9/2017 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 95 pointsConsistent experience with my last from 8/2014. However, I think this has improved and was the wine of the night among other really tasty wines from around the world. I knew this was going to deliver, as Maggie's wines always do, but this was extra special. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2015 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valleymore |
12/24/2017 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 94 pointsMy first Myriad and it delivered as expected. Out of the bottle it was approachable and would have done just fine as a PNP. Decanted for three hours and it was singing nicely when dinner was plated. The purity of red and blue fruits was great and the rich texture was fantastic. Having a wine like this available at the current price point makes me really happy. |

4/13/2013 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 94 pointsVery impressed with this Syrah! The nose was great right out of the gates! Decanted for about forty-five minutes. As we enjoyed it, the nose transitioned from having undertones of blue fruit to a touch of lavender to a hint of pine as we finished off the bottle. Very unique for this price point! Nice, smooth mouth feel and balanced across the palate. Just signed up in their club for a case! |

2015 Renegade Wine Co. GrenacheWalla Walla Valley more |
11/19/2017 - kwn70 Does not like this wine: 75 pointsWas hoping this was going to as good a value as the previous vintages. Was bitter and sour upon opening. Double decanted to try and get something going. An hour in, got a little baking spice on the nose. Touch of fruit on the palate. After 2.5 hours the nose muted and the finish was quick. A little tannin emerged. |

2013 Delmas Syrah SJR VineyardWalla Walla Valley more |
1/15/2016 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 95 pointsEven in its youth, this is a great wine! Upon opening it caught my attention. While it comes from the Rocks, it doesn't exhibit an overpowering funk that is often reflected in wines from this region (e.g. Cayuse, Reynvaan, etc.) This had beautiful/pretty aromatics that continued to develop. The bacon and lavender notes I received throughout the evening were thoroughly enjoyed. I love what they're doing at Delmas! 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

11/30/2012 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 91 pointsIn a blind tasting I would have pegged this as a Reynvaan wine. Great nose of black pepper, a touch of funk and a slight bit of caramel. The palate was a tad hot, but the beefy notes and nice minerality were pleasant. Good QPR! |

2010 Betz Family Clos de BetzColumbia Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/5/2018 - kwn70 Does not like this wine: 86 pointsStarting to show some age on the nose, which seemed strange being a Betz. This was a little thin for my preference and wasn't showing a whole lot of fruit. Fairly acidic back end and a raisiny finish. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2014 Alban Vineyards Syrah Patrina Alban Estate VineyardEdna Valley more |
2/9/2019 - kwn70 wrote: 89 pointsStill a bit harsh and in your face, which I found strange since this is supposed to be the Alban that’s more approachable in its youth. Inky with a bit of alcohol out of the gates. This smoothed out with some air, but still not super impressive or unique. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2014 Quilceda Creek CVR Columbia ValleyRed Bordeaux Blend more |

3/16/2013 - kwn70 wrote: NRTasted at the annual release event. Much more tannic and less fruit forward than the 2009 upon release. Plenty of acidity throughout as well. I'm not even going to revisit this for at least 5 years, maybe even 10. Hopefully this comes around and integrates better with age. I have had much more intriguing wine over the last year that was far less than the $135 price point currently being offered. |

2011 Barnard Griffin Sangiovese Rosé of SangioveseColumbia Valley more |
5/17/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 85 pointsTasted in conjunction with Sean Sullivan's virtual tasting on 5/17/12. A very dark rosé with a bright ruby color. Definitely not the typical light salmon color you typically see. However this came in at 12.4% alcohol. Upon opening the nose was pretty sweet and contained maraschino cherry and watermelon Jolly Rancher notes. Palate was not as sweet at the nose leads one to believe. Was actually quite dry with a nice balance of acid and minerality with a hint of rhubarb. A nice rosé to pair with food and a good QPR at ~$10. |

11/10/2018 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 92 pointsI didn't enjoy this as much as the 2010 vintage I had in July of 2017, but it's still enjoyable. I agree with previous comments that there is still some heat on the finish and needs some time to fully integrate. Needs another couple years. |

4/26/2014 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 96 pointsKiller wine! Had this at the tasting room and it was even more delightful than I remember. Seemless and delicious. Great deep garnet color, ripe fruit and long finish. Just purchased more (2010)! |

2008 Quilceda Creek Red Wine Columbia ValleyRed Bordeaux Blend more |
7/25/2014 - kwn70 wrote: 82 pointsYoung and disjointed. Possibly flawed/ defective. First night revealed some nice smoke on the nose, but still a little hot. Tannins a little rough too. All this after a couple hours of decanting. Should have started the decant at lunch! Questioning the great "value" folks refer to with this red blend. |

2009 Maison Bleue Gravière Upland VineyardYakima Valley Snipes Mountain Red Rhone Blend more |
10/19/2013 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 92 pointsDrank too young. There is still a little heat on the nose and some slightly rough tannin structure that would benefit from a few more years in bottle. A well crafted wine nonetheless. |

2012 Cayuse Syrah Armada VineyardWalla Walla Valley more |
8/19/2018 - kwn70 wrote: 91 pointsI recall liking the Armada syrah in the past. Gave this a couple hour decant. Fairly light in color and weight. For me the nose was dominated by red pepper and Cayuse funk. The palate was typical Cayuse flavors, but it too was light/thin. I've noticed more sourness with the Cayuse/Horsepower wines I've had recently as well. Likely a change of taste... I can't justify $80+ for this any more. |

2015 Quilceda Creek CVR Columbia ValleyRed Bordeaux Blend more |
11/25/2017 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 91 pointsDark ruby red and a hint of sediment. Nice red fruits on the nose with a touch of oak and incense. More red and blue fruits on the palate. Pretty well integrated with smooth tannins considering it's youth. Not super complex though. Consistent notes on night 1 and night 2. |

2010 Kevin White Winery Syrah En HommageYakima Valley more |
1/21/2013 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 89 pointsI forgot what a beautiful magenta color this wine is! Looked great glistening down the decanter! It hasn’t been a full year (or two), but his wine has progressed nicely from the first/last time I had it. The nose had more dark fruit and spice with a touch of oak. The palate it still a touch hot at times and still has a strong helping of tannins, but the deep, juicy black and blue fruit is starting to show more. Paired with marinated hanger steak salad. Much more enjoyable this time around. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
