2022 Rodney Strong Chardonnay Californiamore |
5/4/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsHey this is California Chardonnay. You gotta give them some credit for this attempt. There is is just a hint of crisp mineral sandstone behind the basically proper, ripe peach, lemon and green apple fruit. It’s not particularly complex, but they did a nice job with balance, not too acidic, decent fruit, and we don’t really notice the alcohol. It’s got yellowish golden color. Not as full bodied as most California Chardonnay. |

5/8/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsWe are catching this towards the end of its tasting career. The mild magenta color is browning. Cherry pie with doe, violets and blueberry still have nice aromas, bit they are very mature. The acid and tannins are rolling out of the picture but leaving some still welcome presence. At least medium bodied. A ripe plum is the fruit on the finish that also shows some mushroom dirt and a touch of graphite. |

2020 Sanssouci Cabernet SauvignonFrance more |
9/26/2023 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsDelightful, tasty, easy on the palate Cabernet from southern France. Full and rich while subtle and smooth. Brings the whole Cabernet experience. Roses with the red fruit on the nose. Close to full bodied. Elegant but precise dark cherry, cranberry and black raspberry. Sneaky little tannins. Some caramel and graphite. Lingering shale and raspberry finish. |

11/12/2017 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsAs a release slightly above their more generic entry, to me this is either too young or maybe a little too much oak. Very dark purple for a Pinot. The wood and cherry nose also shows the alcohol. Perfect viscosity. Very mild. Except for the oak totally balanced. Soft and correct minor tannins. Lingering oak and vanilla finish. Wish we had the chance to decant. |

2022 Pas De ProblemeFrance Pinot Noir more |
5/4/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsProduced from a non typical Pinot growing region, this is kind of like Pinot in the raw. Fermented and aged in stainless. Designed to drink young as there are no added sulphites. Quite tannic and rustic. Sharp cherry and raspberry fruity entry with crushed herbs. Not typical as there is little aeration or aging. They just want to showcase the fruit. Lingering sandalwood and shale. Needs food. Still has that lovely Pinot softness across the palate. |

2021 Murphy-Goode Pinot NoirCalifornia more |
12/6/2023 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsConsistently a value wine we can depend on. More on the red side with the fruit on nose and palate. Pinot type mushroom wet earth nose with mild violets, red raspberry and cranberry. A good lash of oak. Young but mild tannins. Touch of red licorice and spicy red hots. Some layers of complexity. Pretty balanced with the alcohol acid and tannins. Handled an open overnight quite well. |

5/7/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsAlmost 5 years off the vine, things have had a chance to integrate and settle down. There are some good things to mention. There is dark cherry meets maraschino cherry soft fruity entry. The nose has nice Pinot like wet barnyard aroma behind lightly smokey mostly cherry red fruit. Light purple to magenta color. Barely medium bodied. Some mildly grippy tannnis with a bit of wet tree bark. Plum and plun skins linger on the rof of the mouth. The acid, fruit and alcohol balance really well together enough that we raised the score a point after an hour open. |

5/4/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsThough not exactly in your face harsh, this one brings the herbaceous, green garden, sharp Kiwi flavors and aromas on the nose and palate. Plenty of grapefruit and gooseberry. Really settles down nicely as it passes through the palate. The acid is actually quite mild. All the excitement is upfront, fades a bit toward the finish. |

12/9/2017 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 86 pointsOn one hand, many previous vintages left me thinking this offering is often artificial and manipulated barely deserving a decent score. On the other hand it does seem to get just a little better every year. This one may be the best ever. First off, there seems to be an unwanted and unwelcome bit of residual sugar. Beyond that, we have pure fresh cherry and raspberry fruit any Pinot would be proud to display. Maybe a bit too much toasty oak. The color is more like Merlot than Pinot. Nice viscosity. Very nice moderate, enhancing tannins. Not just upfront fruit, some continuing though not overwhelming character. A bit of cocoa powder with the cherry on the finish. |

Native yeast. No sulfur. Crisp rich mouthfeel. Some exotic tropical fruit on the finish. Probably best if served a little warmer than most white wines |

Just really nice and correct Rose from Provence at a very fair price. Perfect balance and mouthfeel. Strawberry and red tart cherry from nose to finish. Just the right amount of acid. |

9/20/2023 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsRipe, 45th parallel plum and candied cherry on the nose and palate. A hint of violets and maybe sassafras. Big with oak, big with the fruit and big with the tannins. About equal red fruit and dark fruit flavors. It actually kind of works. Could easily age a bit or use a decant. There is more than enough acid to hold things together. It’s not just fruit and oak. There is some pepper spice, red licorice and graphite. There is some of that stemmy vegetatative stuff. |

5/4/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 86 pointsThis is the house Pinot at my favorite greasy spoon southern restaurant. That being said, I never taste it without some serious hearty food. It has the guts to maintain its character. The color is pretty dark for a Pinot. The earthy, musty flavors are just enough to handle steak and gravy. More than medium bodied and enough oak. Quite refined fruit for the price. So goes the tannins. |

3/15/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 90 pointsEvery once in while we have to mention the label, this one is spectacular. Super dark purple color. The time in bottle seems to have enriched and consolidated the flavors Lively nose of cherry, boysenberry, violets and alcohol. Plenty of oak. Not quite full bodied, actually quite elegant considering the dark color and rich fruity nose. In other words it does a fantastic job of not being flabby and overly fruity. Some interesting stuff, especially lingering graphite on the finish. |

9/20/2023 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsRose of Pinot with an atypical really dark color. Very expressive nose of candied wild cherry. Quite a bit of viscosity, could be a bleed wine. Typical French balance and completeness. Not especially complex just fruity and approachable. Gets more expressive as it warms in the glass, more intense floral notes and even an old viney richness. |

4/15/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsThe epitome well made Lodi old vine Zin. Ridiculously dark almost black color. Raisin, stewed prune and deep vanilla nose. Hedonistic, rich almost port like super extracted red and dark fruit. Almost tar like. Loads of pepper spice almost like red hots. Not completely full bodied. The many and varied tertiary flavors like Dr Pepper, licorice, cola, tar and tree root emerge and change with each sip. Purple teeth savage finish. |

12/1/2023 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsFor the niche it fills, this is a really attractive Oregon Pinot Noir. Fairly light in color and texture. Upfront fruity and ready now. Basically authentic. Red raspberry and cranberry nose and palate. Some barnyard stuff. Mild tannins. A fair lash of oak, leaving a nice vanilla. Some kitchen spice especially thyme and mild rosemary. Not necessarily layered and complex, just easy, fruity, juicy Pinot. |

5/2/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsThey really have something to talk about here. Made from 11 vineyards all over the Willamette Valley, they commuted around to get the juice. This is about as expressive of Willamette Pinot Noir as it gets. Vinified with minimal intervention for about 9 months, this is designed to drink young. Moderate magenta color. Red fruit nose showing a hint of sandalwood and spice cabinet. About medium bodied. Fruit and more fruit. Taste and feel a bit of red cherry skins. The tannins and acid meld well together. The fruit and spice continue through the finish. |

Thoroughly balanced. May could use some decant. |
