2005 Kreglinger Pinot Noir Vintage Brut Rosé

Pipers River more

A very good rose style. Florals, berries and a long finish.
Champagne has to be pretty expensive to better this (but yes it can).

2002 Mitchell Riesling Watervale

more

5/5/2016 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 91 points

To me this wine has been problematic in its mid phase from excess sulphide. Time has healed this aspect.
Golden colour. Screwcap slid open, no 'crack'. Was it compromised?
No worry, clear strong frangipani on nose, hint of exotic fruit (can't pick).
On palate it is mature, fruit still present, slight softness in mouth, just the merest hint of 'kero'. Dry finish, alcohol hint comes through at 13.5%.
Not exact typical mature Watervale as alcohol too high, fermented to full dryness and sulphide level has retarded fruit developing tertiary characteristics. Will likely live for another 14 years.
A great food wine with an early course of Asian accented flavours.

maturing fairly fast. bottle second day tiring.

2013 Banks Road Pinot Noir Barrel Select Soho Road Vineyard

Geelong more

3/19/2016 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 95 points

Just a fantastic pinot. classic Geelong stemminess on nose and palate. light to medium bodied. Perfect now, ageing fairly quickly. Very feminine and soft in the mouth and oh so moreish.
Can stand being drunk on own, quail a perfect accompaniment.
In the light sappy, cherry spectrum, hint of spice. Long soft finish.

brick red colour. Earthy cherry pit on nose. Soft mouth entry, savoury profile with dried cherry extract flavours, high acidity, soft taninns, long finish. Slightly sour note somewhere on finish.
Goes well as a food wine eg charcuterie antipasto. will keep a few years. Lighter end of medium bodied.
Vineyard is base of Mt Canobolas in Orange.

2004 Taylors Riesling Jaraman

Clare Valley more

1/17/2016 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 92 points

Bought this at auction at fraction of release price on a whim. Yellow-Green still at 12 years of age, amazing. Delicate nose of light honey, lanolin and ?thyme. Palate strikes with soft round gentle fruit with a hint of australian old riesling "kerosene". In amazing condition for its age thanks to the Stelvin cap. Persistent finish, a delight to drink. Still got 5 years left in it , easily. Thick dense fruit concentration with just a slight drop in acid giving it that soft touch feeling. More Clare than Eden or if I was to be specific it hits Clare at the front and Eden on the back palate.
A perfect blend with lighter dishes such as seafood, antipasto.
Irony is 99% of this wine produced has almost certainly been drunk!

2014 Mission Hill Pinot Noir Reserve

Okanagan Valley VQA more

1/7/2016 - crazywineguy Does not like this wine: 87 points

Compared to the standard 2015 this is more structured, more oak and tannin but unfortunately doesnt have the fruit to carry it.
Drying tannin stands out on the back palate.
would have been better blending this into the standard as an easy drinking pinot.
Cork seal so never know if there was a hint of corked dulling off the fruit.

2013 Tinhorn Creek Merlot

Okanagan Valley VQA more

1/6/2016 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 88 points

light colour, orange rim edge suggesting secondary development.
Engaging nose that is smooth berry and that is repeated on the palate. A light Merlot with some smooth tannins there for food.
Drink up, will only gently fade away over next 5 years.
Slightly short finish with drying tannins the last impression

2012 Mission Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Okanagan Valley VQA more

1/3/2016 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 91 points

Undeveloped colour.
Really interesting nose of cassis and hint of leather.
Blackcurrant/cassis hits first followed by drying slightly chewy tannins suggesting need for food.
Food softened the wine up a lot and a slight lack of acid made it smooth and less intense on palate than solo tasting (Venison Rack).
A good BC Cabernet (which is rare). Would take some extra aging *2-3 years) but not too much as doesnt have acid for a ten year life.
Better than Hester Creek Franc which followed.

2013 Rigamarole (Artisan Wine Co) Rosé

Okanagan Valley VQA Rosé Blend more

1/2/2016 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 89 points

Deep pink/red and brilliant clear.
Dry on the nose, raspberry note with herbal edge aroma.
On the palate slightly sweet entry from friut ripeness as it is properly dry. Smooth, integrated flavour of red fruits.
Complemented the rare salmon perfectly. Appreciated the Stelvin seal guaranteeing freshness and no cork taint.
Just needed more intensity to get 90+ rating.

2010 Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva

Tempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more

12/31/2015 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 90 points

3rd bottle of the evening (well it is New years Eve!).
Medium in everything, nose, palate, quality.
Fruit still submerged compared to oak which is strong. Long life ahead but won't scale the heights.
Earthy ferrous flavour. Definately a food wine eg charcuterie. Would show uninspired by itself due to non primary fruit structure ie Old World.
Prior vintage experience tells me 10 year life ahead.

2013 Eau Vivre Winery Riesling

Similkameen Valley more

12/31/2015 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 90 points

Pale Yellow. Classic Ries;ing varietal nose ie lime/petrol.
Palate less intense than nose suggests. Slightly sweet fruit to mouth, rich full bodied riesling flavour. Smooth ie no high acid poking out out. Destined for now consumption rather than cellaring I suspect. Some pith drying mid to back palate and moderate length finish. Pretty much agree with Merritt on this one but I give it a higher score, more if it had been drier with higher acid for aging. Good for an Okanagan Aromatic.

2011 Trapiche Malbec Terroir Series Finca Ambrosia

Gualtallary more

12/31/2015 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 94 points

A young, young Malbec still at 4 yrs age. Really needed 3 hours of decanting to open up and show its future self.
Deep inky black. Sour/savoury blueberry on nose with hint of coffee.
Concentrated fruit to taste with fine, fine tannins. High acidity, almost bitey on the back palate. Alcohol 15% detectable on nose, less so on palate where it fits the full bodied taste.
Needs another 4 years minimum to be super smooth or drink now with rare meat. I liked it!

2007 Meerea Park Shiraz Alexander Munro

Hunter Valley more

12/21/2015 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 94 points

my first tasting note on cellartracker. Really integrated intense huge wine. Deep purple rim at 8 years age, impenetrable centre.
blueberry/dark fruits nose - strong, hint of sweet oak.
big rich mouthfilling wine with fine tannins and still decent acid. Went great with meat. Finish falls away quickly leaving tannin fine dryness exposed.
This will age well. Slightly atypical Hunter due to higher alcohol and larger than medium bodied. Suspect it was later picked for fruit ripeness effect. Drink with rare meat.
