2014 Bremerton Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Langhorne Creek

Lovely warm wine.
Sour cherry moves to stone fruit.
We opened the wine 30 mins before drinking our first glass. It opened up over a couple of hours, seeing the sour cherry become less pronounced and the stone fruit become more pronounced.

As usual for Bremerton a great value wine.
Peaches come to the fore. It’s buttery but it isn’t layered on.

Smooth and balanced. Initially a bit oaky, an hour decent helps. Then nice blackberry, plum and vanilla with a decent finish. At 5 years of age very well drinkable. Can be stored for a few more years but would not wait for too long.

Murky crimson, with some sediment. This is just turning, but still showing good fruit and acidity. And a snip at auction for $20.

Pronounced nose of baked plum, blackcurrant, blueberry, baked clay, dried black cherry, jalapeno, charred capsicum and cranberry, cigar box, cedar.

Tart red fruits on the palate, medium body, plums, medium acidity, hollowed tannins and a smooth finish, with a bit of heat.

Very familiar with Bremerton, but not with this blend. Robust, almost like a Barossa shiraz, which is odd for a Langhorne Creek wine.

Decanted for 1 hour. Still young. The wine has relatively much acidity, which for me makes the rating lower. Perhaps a few years will help here. 88 pts. at the moment.

Has that Aussie green note to the nose. Fresh and lively, also tightly wound on the palate. Tight in its acids. It will be fun to see where it goes.

Hommage to mother's and grand-mother's names. What a lovely nose - cinnamon, spice, and bacon fat. Tight grain, lightly toasted 600 L French Oak. Clean and fresh on the palate. Also tightly wound on the palate as well.

Also has a beautiful high perfume to the nose. Touches of evergreen but nicely pure fruit as well. Close to very cold water I am being told. Fresh on the palate, fairly tightly wound up. Direct line across the palate.

With some evergreen fruit to the nose that is actually kinda quite charming. Palate is salty, like its been acidified, or is touch the ocean. Or the ocean breeze touches this. More northern rhone than southern Rhone in style I am being told.

Very decent Cabernet from south Australia. Dry, full very bodied medium acidity and medium high tannic .Powerful on the nose and palate. Obviously very high quality grapes. Intense aromas of blackberry bit of plum and vanilla. Due to well integrated oak. Also some earthy notes of pepper. Finish was magnificent! It’s not a very subtle wine to pair it with something that can match it. At 9 years of age, it was perfect but could even be cellared for a few more years. All in all, a wine that backs up its high price !

Smells complex, earth, dill and some fruit character. With the sense of Australian fruit in the mid palate and acidification.

The wine looks violet colored. The legs are slow. It smells like meaty, black olive, bell pepper, black pepper, sandalwood, plum and blackberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz
from Langhorne Creek, a cool climate region that sits on the rich soil of
the Bremer River floods.
Components were individually fermented in open fermenters for
maximum flavor and color extraction.
Aged 10 months in oak barrels.
14% Abv.
Background:
Bremerton Wines & Bremerton Vineyards as well as Matilda Plains
Winery are parts of Bremerton Vintners Pty Ltd, a Willson family
business in Langhorne Creek, South Australia.
Proprietors: Sisters Rebecca Willson (Winemaker) and Lucy Willson

"Matilda Plains" got its name in honor of their vineyard dog - a collie
named Matilda Freckles. During daily walks the dog tasted the grapes
and spit them out if they were not ripe. And if Matilda ate grapes,
then the berries are ready for harvesting.

An excellent positive surprise. Incredibly powerful. Lots of power on the nose with blackberry impact. Spices and fine woods. A stunner on the palate. Huge body. Extremely intense flavors of licorice and blackberry jam. Chocolate. Fat almost buttery. To melt hearts.

Simple but clean aroma of cherries and mulberries with toasted oak, cumin and clove. Palate is spicy and plush, good level of freshness given its age. Medium-bodied palate, lacking depth of flavours and length. Finish has a touch of sweetness, followed by dry tannins. Drink now, on its own or with grilled food.

Pleased to see that community rates better than Wine Journalists.
Except René Gabriel, the Swiss Bordeaux pope, all Journalists typically fail on this wine. The 2010 was the best Shiraz I ever drank under 50 USD.
The 2014 is very very pleasant. Power and velvet together. Dark fruit marmelade opening into woody, spicy earthy tones. Just nice and seamless.
Good over the next 5 years, I assume.

Nice Aussie Shiraz. Fully bodied, medium acidity, medium tannins and pretty dry. As always, Bremmerton delivers. Lots of black fruit combined with subtle oaky notes of vanilla. Had it at 5 years of age which seems to be the peak but it can endure a few more years since it still was pretty fruity. Had it with a steak and the wine really stood out even more, so I would recommend the same. Can be drunk straight away but it benefited from 45 Minutes in the decanter
