Banana, walnuts, orange rind and a distinct grappa note. Oddly pleasing.

Wild and branyardy-(like a horse's butt barnyardy), but once you get through the funk there is a beautiful strawberry banana thing going on. Fresh, fruity, juicy and thirst quenching.

Absolutely polarizing but wonderful if you can get through the funk :)

I am the buyer at Windsor Wines (in Brooklyn also). I fell in love with this wine and started carrying it a few months ago and it's been quite successful. I just have to warn people how funky it is before they buy it! If you're ever in the area you should check out the shop, you will definitely find some odd and small production wines on the shelves as we deal almost exclusively in those types of wines.

Wow, what a surprise... At first taste, I HATED this wine. I immediately thought of bringing it back to the wine shop because I felt it was TERRIBLY INTOLERABLE. However, the sales guy who raved about it (and I have always loved his recommends) said I should give it a try...It's kind of "funky" and pretty different in a good way. It is on the higher price point for my casual mid-week wine choice but I decided to try it...
It smells like a barnyard. Funky! First taste: sour like a cider. Hated it. But the finish is decent. Tasted like plums and cherries. Surprisingly, I hate plums but this was okay. I will give it a chance. So far, I hated it and it is starting to taste all right. It reminds me of umeboshi plum from Japan. I will see, after a second pour, if I really do want to toss it or not.

Surprisingly complex wine for the money. Nose of smoked meat, broth, tea, stewed raspberries and black cherry with the palate following suit. Juicy and ripe with black tea, smoke, damp leaves, stewed raspberries and black cherry with just a touch of salinity in the finish. The only thing this is really missing is depth of texture and length but for $17... Excellent.

Wow. Beautiful Nebbiolo and despite the age, it still had great fruit and structure. The color is deep garnet with just the hint of brick to it. The nose is all Piedmont: sappy cherry, leather, and dried rose and the palate following suit. What's most impressive is the structure of the wine. Dusty tannins are almost completely resolved with just a hint of the classic Nebbiolo bite while the acid is bright and well integrated and provide great lift and vibrancy to the wine. Vallana just released this as a library selection and it's definitely a winner. I'm not sure how much came into the country but if you can find it it's a steal under $40.

I don't get this wine - supposed to be special but with both magnums I've opened I've found it thin with an off-putting gasoline-like alcohol. I guess I'll see if the 2010 or the 3-years on lees versions are any better, but feeling like I over bought this label and wouldn't do it again.

6/15/2014 11:46:00 AM - I think you may need to give them more time. I had opened a bottle a year ago and got the impression it would be better with some time. Now I am sitting on a couple 750s and these aren't on my radar to drink for another year or two. I would think with the magnums you would really need some patience, but having had four different labels (Clisson, Trois, Briords, and the basic bottling) and multiple vintages, these wines really do benefit from some bottle age.

I hope you have a magnum left to sit on!

This wine boasts bold fragrances of framble berry, cherries and red pepper that interplay with toasted oak and other spicy aromas on the nose, flavors of wild berry, raspberry and nutmet mingle on the palate and create a lovely bouquet for the senses.
