2016 Chalone Vineyard Pinot Noir Chalonemore |
2/8/2020 - Fiddletown Robin Likes this wine: 92 pointsSmooth and very grape forward. Not overly complex, the taste of Pinot shines through. I would not let it sit too much longer. The color is starting to turn, while the flavor does not show any oxidation, the color does. |

Fragrant nose of cherries, cedar, floral notes, and spices. It took about an hour to open, and it was worth the wait. Smooth and elegant on the palate, not flabby or tart; medium body and pleasant weight. Spice flavors lead ahead of cedary tones; cooked flavors began to show up after about 90 mins. It's not heavily extracted, a plus. Finishes with another blast of cherry and zero tannins. The maker of this wine, Charles Myers, an important person in the history of CA wine, passed away about 6 months ago. I am glad that I found this bottle to commemorate his passing. It's memorable, and an unbelievable bargain.

Cork was brittle and some fell into the bottle. Decanted and thought the wine was good, but I'm scratching my head about the cork...
