Is this the second wine from Chateau L'if? The bottle says its a Wally's Wine Exclusive...Anyway, its a very indiscrete bottling from Jaques Theinpont, which in itself, is very interesting. If you can get your hand on a L'if, then it would be really interesting to open this one right before and look for commonalities...If you happen to just have some Le Pin just lying around, you can open that one last... :-) Crazy things do happen in life.

The nose on this wine is incredible, lots of violets and and other hues of blue.. The palate didn't quite deliver the promises that the nose made, but, it was very powerful, approachable and ready to drink! Awesome value. Roasted cured meat, a touch of smoke, violets, red fruit, slightly sweet, and perfectly acidic. This is a youthful wine that drinks like a baby grand cru..Drink or Hold...A must try.

The Impromptu '96 Horizontal (Mine, Hong Kong): This was a monster - deep and dense all the way to the rim. Quite closed. After I decanted it I assumed it would open up after a few hours but it was quite tortuous. It was like it was only a couple of years old. Some bell pepper, very full bodied and unctuously, thick. This coats the mouth and stays there - good for length but not enough flavours yet to warrant the score I thought this would get. Bit of a disappointment. I guess we leave this for another 10 years!
