2017 Robert Keenan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley more

Deep ruby color. Earthy, oak smoke aromas. Tannic and dry to the finish with clay and black cherry tastes. Got a great price of $25 at Central Market, putting a few bottles away to taste a in a couple years. Could be great.

3/25/2021 10:23:00 PM - I got the same deal at Central Market. I bought a case as I've always had good experiences with Keenan wines. I might pull one out and decant it for 3 or 4 hours and see how it develops.

2013 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Was not familiar with this winery. Found the bottle in the "special reserve" section at Bonefish Grill at a fair price ($69) after checking the CT ratings and reviews. Was impressed that this young wine was ready to drink--smooth mouthfull of black cherry with light herb notes. Tannins fully integrated. Wondering how often good wines get lost in the marketing world when they have bland names (and labels) like "Hall"?

7/6/2017 7:05:00 PM - Right now the 2012 Hall is available at Total Wine in Durham for $43. However the 2013 is significantly better in my opinion. Of the last several vintages I'd rank them in this order: 2008/2013 (I think in a few years time the 2013 will surpass the 2008), 2006, 2010, 2011. I was disappointed in the 2012, 2007, and 2009. I can get the 2013 for $36 locally (in qty of 6). It's a great deal for a pretty damn good wine. If I can forget about it for at least 3-5 years, it'll be even better.

2013 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon

Opened for NYE..... Obvious crowd pleaser...lush aromas in the glass
And very fruit forward on the tongue.... It's full of berry bursting out..
It has a sweet profile and lacks the terroir and complexity that I look for in other wines... Would I buy it again... Yes ...I enjoyed it
It's like an attractive blonde....hot at first glance till you realize she's wearing too much makeup

I was unable to express this, but this is exactly the right expression to convey how I feel about the recent Caymus cabs. And yet, knowing this, I'm still somewhat drawn to them.
