At Il Tinello. Good stuff but as often has been case w me and bottles of Tignanello, seems a bit too generic. Perhaps too young.

Second bottle cracked within a month. Perfect once again. Grateful that nature and nurture 23 years ago gave so much joy these 2+ decades later.

Lithe and ethereal but with real substance. Just heavenly juice I could sip all night long. Modest nose but the palate and finish are lovely.

2001 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

OMG (not that I am really very surprised), this is aging gracefully and beautifully, a truly stunning mid-maturity Châteauneuf-du-Pape from a perfect vintage. Really, I can't ask for much more in a wine than this.

Quite light and transparent in appearance, this is shockingly delicate and precise, yet quite savory with mineral and blood, then moving gracefully to grilled plum and sour cherry with loads of dried herbs and garrigue notes. It has that perfect combination of savory, sweet and spicy with absolutely no heaviness. There is still a faintly grippy, peppery, toothsome element on the finish that suggests this still has many years ahead.

I waffled in 92, 94, 95 and then finally 96 points. This is an utter stunner if CDP is your thing.

Listening to a little Jackie Greene post-dinner party, and trying to capture the flavors of the night. Not easy. This beautiful wine was probably at its moment. Not too young. Not too old. Great Bordeaux flavor profile. Paired with two spectacular wines -- an 07 Chapoutier Le Meal and and an 07 Bryant Family Cab. Two amazing wines -- truly amazing wines. The Chapoutier was smooth as silk. A kimono. Silk pajamas. Perfect in its balance. Acid, tannins, and fruit all in balance. Anyway, I digress. The Bryant was a beauty. All Howell Mountain Cab. Blood. Iron. Minerality. Smooth. Perfect with steak. Anyway, this French beauty was lovely. Really, it is why I love French Bordeaux wines. The flavor profile. The nose. The balance. It paired great with Canyon Meadows Ranch Ribeyes, lobster tails, and so many other yummy treats that no one will remember. Back to Jackie Greene. I love music. Learned a couple of Taylor Swift songs today. Going to figure out more. Anyway, a fun night with old dear friends, great food, and the best wine on earth. Hallelujah!! If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you just might miss it. Time is a river. Don't drown. Stay afloat. Watch the stars. Time is a gift and curse. Love the people you love. Cheers.
